Hevajra – An Anuttarayoga Tantra
Hevajra (Main figure)
(Top to bottom): Hevajra and Dorje Shugden
Deity: Hevajra
Alternative name: Kye Dorje (Tibetan)
Hevajra is one of the main Anuttarayoga Tantra meditational deities of Tibetan Buddhism, especially within the Sakya tradition in which his practice is given great importance. Within Anuttarayoga Tantra, his practice belongs to the set of Mother Tantras. As with other Anuttarayoga Tantra practices, when engaged in correctly, one is able to gather the creative drops received from one’s mother and father at birth within the central psychic channel. This leads to the experience of great bliss and clear light. It is this experience that is fundamental in helping us to purify attachment to objects and the traces of negative emotions. Utilising this purification, one is able to leave all suffering behind and gain higher states of consciousness.
Deity: Dorje Shugden (Tibetan)
Alternative name: Vajra Rudra (Sanskrit)
Dorje Shugden is an emanation of the Buddha of Wisdom, Manjushri. He took the form of a Dharma Protector in order to safeguard the Buddha’s teachings, especially the important teachings on the Middle Way View. Reminiscent of Manjushri’s form, Dorje Shugden carries a meandering sword and rides a snowlion that represents the fearlessness of a fully enlightened Buddha. Furthermore, he carries a jewel-spitting mongoose and a vajra hook to symbolise that he has the tremendous ability to bestow wealth and resources. He has great strength to overcome obstacles of the body, speech and mind, and create suitable conditions for our spiritual practice to flourish.
