It shows how strong her guru devotion is and hence all her success in practice, retreats, meditation, and spiritual pursuits. She is wonderful. Her teacher is lucky to find her and through her he can spread so much dharma. She is very fortunate to find her teacher and receive so much dharma to share with others.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikshuni in the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.Tenzin Palmo at age 21 years old, met her teacher, the eighth Khamtrul Rinpoche, in India in 1964. She was one of the first Westerners ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun. After studying with her teacher for six years, and following his advice she spent twelve years meditating in a cave despite many hardships and life-threatening experiences in the Himalayas . She has a very close relationship with the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche who passed away in 1980. In 1993, meeting his reincarnation of her root teacher the H.E. the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche mean a lot to Tenzin as her guru passed away while she is still in the cave meditating .Her devoted relationship remain the same after meeting her guru again. Looking at the picture tell us how strong her guru devotion is. She is so fortunate to meet her root guru again and continue spreading dharma teachings. She is an author, teacher and founder of the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in India. Up to this days she continue travelling and giving teachings.
Thank you Rinpoche for this beautiful sharing.
Thank you Rinpoche and the blog team for sharing this picture. It is inspiring to see how devoted Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo to her guru. She has lived in solitary retreat for over 12 years in the mountains, and her attainments are incredible. I enjoyed reading her book very much, which is fascinating to know what happened when one lives in solitude for so long. What did they do to spend their time and what kind of problems they encounter during those years up in the mountain?
In her book, it was mentioned that the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche referred to her as “his nun” before. It seems that the relationship between Jetsunma and her guru has a long history which extends beyond 1 lifetime. When Jetsunma first met the young 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche, the young Rinpoche also said the same thing to her.
Hence, the relationship between a student a teacher is much more sacred and complicated than what we can see. It was said that a spiritual teacher would be responsible for the student’s spiritual journey until enlightenment once the Samaya is established. They will meet again and again until the student achieves Buddhahood in the end.
Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is best known for being one of the very few Western yoginis trained in the East. Reading a library book on Buddhism motivated her to move to India at age 20. Where she taught English at the Young Lamas Home School for a few months before meeting her root lama, the 8th Khamtrul Rinpoche. She having spent twelve years living in a remote cave in the Himalayas. Tenzin Palmo is an amazing lady, founded Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery
Meeting the reincarnation of her root teacher Khamtrul Rinpoche tells us a thousand words. She is so humble indeed from the picture shared.
Thank you Rinpoche for this beautiful sharing.

I chose to read this first as I have great respect for Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo for her stories and teachings are always inspiring. Apart from Rinpoche’s teachings, I regurlaly listen to her teachings especially the teaching about Atisha’s Verses he training of the mind https://www.tsemrinpoche.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/great-lamas-masters/dipamkara-shrijnana-atisha-the-master-who-revived-buddhism-in-india-and-tibet.html
From the above short sharing, it reminds me that all attainments comes from the kindness of our Guru as hence we should properly devote ourselves to our Guru. With this special bond we can see how Dharma blossomed and touched the hearts of many. Both Guru and the student work hand in hand to spread Dharma, never separated . Thank you Rinpoche.
