Kechara Soup Kitchen, founded by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, is a strategic partner to the Malaysian Government’s efforts to alleviate the cost of living.
It is one of the key partners of Food Bank Malaysia, an initiative by the government of Malaysia to reduce food wastage and to assist those in need to alleviate the cost of living. Kechara Soup Kitchen’s (KSK) food bank operations have aided in benefiting a total of 45,850 households as of February 2019, reports Malaysian national news agency Bernama and other national dailies (click here to read the report). The other groups that have also contributed significantly to the government’s initiatives are Mutiara Food Bank and the Food Bank Foundation.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah binti Wan Ismail, the programme is a success and has thus far managed to save 1,055 tonnes of excess food by directing it to Malaysians in the lower-income bracket. With this benchmark achieved, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed that the government can now begin to execute similar strategies in other states. This is one of the Malaysian Government’s goals, to make sure that no Malaysian goes hungry. In addition, Dato’ Seri Wan Azizah Ismail indicated that the Malaysian Government will take steps to assist students of higher education institutions to meet the cost of living.
Kechara Soup Kitchen officially began in 2008 and was created through inspiration by His Eminence the 25th Tsem Rinpoche, the Spiritual Guide of the Kechara Organisation. As an institutional citizen of Malaysia, Kechara Soup Kitchen which is part of the Kechara group is glad that it is instrumental in the Malaysian Government’s efforts to improve the lives of its people. Rinpoche has always stressed that spiritual practice means we must care for, and use our lives to benefit our own community regardless of differences which ultimately are superficial.
As a young child in Taiwan, Rinpoche would often not have enough food to eat. Following years of physical and emotional hardship after being adopted to the United States, Rinpoche left home at the age of 15 to fulfil a promise to his teacher to become a monk. In the process, Rinpoche made a harrowing journey across the United States, from New Jersey to Los Angeles. This life experience has made Rinpoche determined to always help the poor, the homeless and those in need, whoever they may be, and he has also always encouraged others to do the same.
As a result, in 2006, a group of Rinpoche’s students began to distribute food to the hungry in the city of Kuala Lumpur and this activity later gave birth to a formal organisation called Kechara Soup Kitchen in 2008 under the motto of “Hunger Knows No Barriers”.
Kechara Soup Kitchen’s activities expanded over the years to include skills retraining for the urban poor, mobile medical services for the homeless, rehabilitation support, and even basic but yet important services like arranging clean clothes and haircuts for the homeless so that they can help themselves by being presentable during job interviews. Taking its commitment to help the poor and homeless further, it is common for Kechara Soup Kitchen to connect the homeless with employment opportunities and guide them through the process.
In 2012, Kechara Soup Kitchen started its food bank operations, a move that takes the fight against poverty upstream before the poor become completely displaced and homeless. The food bank works together with partners in various sectors to gather surplus food and groceries, and redistribute them to the hardcore poor. Notable supporters include supermarkets and hypermarkets such as Tesco, AEON Co., Hero Market, Econsave, NSK, Segi Fresh, The Store, Mydin, Family Store, Zemart, Komugi bread, Pasar Tani (FAMA), various vegetable sellers from Selayang Market and many more.
For its years of effort and the continuous realisation of its mission, in February 2018, Kechara Soup Kitchen was awarded the World CSR Leadership Award for ‘Excellence & Leadership in Poverty Alleviation’ during the World CSR Day celebrations in Mumbai, India.
Without question, Kechara Soup Kitchen’s growing number of volunteers who come from all walks of life and all age groups have been vital to its social objective. They are the life blood of Kechara Soup Kitchen’s work and the force behind its commitment to the poor and homeless whom Kechara Soup Kitchen respectfully refers to as ‘clients’.
We would like to thank the Malaysian Government for its support of Kechara Soup Kitchen which has enabled us to be part of this very beneficial programme to benefit society.

由尊贵的詹杜固仁波切所创立的克切拉香积厨，现已成为大马政府针对减轻人民生活开销的重要策略性伙伴。
据马来西亚国营新闻台-马新社及各大报章报道，作为马来西亚食物银行的主要合伙人，截至2019年2月为止，克切拉香积厨（简称：KSK）所主催食物银行计划，已让45,850个家庭受惠。同时，这也是马来西亚政府为了呼吁人民减少食物的浪费，及帮助有需要的民众减轻生活负担而倡导的一项计划。槟州珍珠食物银行及大马食物银行基金会均积极响应此项由政府所号召的计划。
据副首相拿督斯里旺阿兹莎.旺伊斯迈透露，此项计划共节约了共1,055吨的过剩食物，并且把把这些食物交到低收入群体的手中。所以说，这是一项成功的计划。由此项计划作为参照点的基础上，副首相称，政府现在可以在其他州属复制这项计划。这符合政府的其中一项目标：确保没有马来西亚人挨饿。此外，拿督斯里旺阿兹莎.旺伊斯迈也指出，马来西亚政府将会采取相应措施，帮助高等学府学生应付日益高涨的生活负担。
作为一家大马机构，克切拉集团旗下的克切拉香积厨在大马政府改进人民生活的议题上，扮演着积极的角色。尊贵的詹杜固仁波切时常强调，修行的实践在于我们必须关爱社会，并且利用我们的生命利益周遭社会，而不是让一些最终是流于表面的分别阻挡了我们。
在克切拉的精神导师——尊贵的第25世詹仁波切的主催下，克切拉香积厨于2008年开始正式运作。
仁波切同年时期也遭遇过食不果腹的日子。接着下来又经历了多年身体与心灵上的磨难。在仁波切十五岁时，为了信守他对上师的承诺，他毅然决然离开家里，并在上师座下批剃出家。在过程中，仁波切穿梭于美国各州，从新泽西到洛杉矶，途中可谓饱经风霜。这段经历让仁波切发下救助贫寒的誓愿。无论是无家可归，或是需要帮助的群体，不管是什么人，他都呼吁大家施予援手。
于是，在2006年，一群仁波切的弟子开始在吉隆坡市中心分发食物，让饥饿者得以温饱。这项活动也在2008年，衍生出一个正式的团体——克切拉香积厨。此团体的口号为“饥饿无疆界”。
克切拉香积厨在多年的经营下，其活动也趋向多样化，包括为乡区贫寒居民提供技能培训，为露宿者提供流动医疗服务及复健支援，以及一些基本且重要的服务，如为他们准备干净的衣服及理发。这些措施有助于让露宿者在出席工作招聘时，可以表现得相当体面。在帮助贫苦及流浪者的前提而延伸开来，对于帮助露宿者获得就业机会及适应职场生活，克切拉香积厨志工已把这些视为己任。
克切拉香积厨在2012年开始其食物银行计划。此项计划志在让贫困者还未面临流离失所的情况前，就着手解决贫困问题。食物银行与多方合作，从而把过剩的食物与日常用品聚集起来，并把它们在分发给赤穷户。一些知名的超市合作单位包括乐购（Tesco），益康省（Econsave），环球百货（The Store）及世纪大学与学院（SEGI）。
克切拉香积厨多年以来一直不懈的实践它使命。2018年2月，在印度孟买所举行的世界企业社会责任领导纪念日（World CSR Day），克切拉香积厨获授予世界企业社会责任领导奖。
毋庸置疑的是，克切拉香积厨的志工人数正不断攀升。这些志工来自社会各阶层及各年龄层，而他们对于克切拉香积厨来说，拥有重要的社会意义。他们是克切拉香积厨的命脉，他们是穷人与流浪者的坚强后盾。而这些穷人与流浪者正正是克切拉香积厨的服务对象。

Kechara Soup Kitchen yang diasaskan oleh Y.M. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche merupakan rakan kongsi strategik kepada usaha Kerajaan Malaysia untuk meringankan kos sara hidup.
Sebagai salah satu rakan kongsi utama kepada Bank Makanan Malaysia (Food Bank Malaysia), sebuah inisiatif oleh kerajaan Malaysia untuk mengurangkan pembaziran makanan dan untuk membantu mereka yang memerlukan untuk meringankan kos sara hidup, operasi bank makanan Kechara Soup Kitchen (“KSK”) telah membantu dalam memberi manfaat kepada sejumlah 45,850 isirumah pada bulan Februari 2019, lapor agensi berita nasional Malaysia Bernama dan akhbar harian nasional lain. Kumpulan-kumpulan lain yang juga menyumbang secara penting kepada inisiatif kerajaan adalah Mutiara Food Bank dan the Food Bank Foundation.
Menurut Timbalan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, program ini merupakan satu kejayaan dan sehingga kini telah berjaya menjimatkan 1,055 tan makanan berlebihan dan memberikannya kepada rakyat Malaysia yang berpendapatan rendah. Dengan tercapainya penanda aras ini, Timbalan Perdana Menteri menyatakan bahawa kerajaan kini boleh melaksanakan strategi yang sama di negeri-negeri lain. Ini merupakan salah satu matlamat kerajaan Malaysia, untuk memastikan “tiada rakyat Malaysia yang kelaparan”. Tambahan pula, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Ismail menyatakan bahawa kerajaan Malaysia akan mengambil langkah bagi membantu pelajar institusi pengajian tinggi untuk memenuhi kos sara hidup.
Sebagai sebuah institusi Malaysia, KSK sebagai sebahagian daripada kumpulan Kechara berbesar hati dengan usaha kerajaan Malaysia untuk memperbaiki kehidupan rakyatnya. Y.M. Tsem Rinpoche sentiasa menekankan bahawa amalan spiritual bermaksud kita mesti menjaga, dan menggunakan kehidupan kita untuk memberi manfaat kepada komuniti tanpa menghiraukan perbezaan yang hanya bersifat luaran.
KSK bermula secara rasmi pada 2008 dan dicipta berdasarkan inspirasi daripada Yang Mulia Tsem Rinpoche, Pembimbing Spiritual organisasi Kechara.
Sebagai kanak-kanak, Rinpoche tidak mempunyai cukup makanan untuk dimakan dan melalui kesusahan fizikal dan emosi selama bertahun-tahun, Rinpoche meninggalkan rumah ketika berumur 15 tahun untuk memenuhi janji gurunya untuk menjadi sami. Sepanjang proses itu Rinpoche mengalami perjalanan yang mengganggu perasaan melalui Amerika Syarikat dari New Jersey ke Los Angeles. Pengalaman hidup ini telah membuatkan Rinpoche bertekad untuk sentiasa membantu orang susah, gelandangan dan mereka yang memerlukan, tidak kira siapa pun mereka, dan beliau juga selalu menggalakkan orang lain melakukan perkara yang sama.
Hasilnya, pada 2006, sekumpulan pelajar Rinpoche mula mengedarkan makanan kepada mereka yang kelaparan di Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur dan aktiviti ini kemudiannya melahirkan organisasi formal yang dipanggil Kechara Soup Kitchen pada 2008 dengan moto “Kelaparan Tidak Mengenal Batasan”.
Aktiviti KSK berkembang saban tahun dan menambah latihan semula kemahiran untuk miskin bandar, perkhidmatan perubatan bergerak untuk gelandangan, sokongan rehabilitasi, dan perkhidmatan asas yang penting seperti menyusun pakaian bersih dan memotong rambut supaya gelandangan ini dapat membantu diri mereka sendiri dan berkeadaan elok ketika menghadiri temuduga. Memandangkan komitmennya untuk membantu orang miskin dan gelandangan dengan lebih jauh, adalah menjadi kebiasaan bagi KSK untuk menghubungkan gelandangan dengan peluang pekerjaan dan membimbing mereka melalui proses tersebut.
Pada 2012, KSK memulakan operasi bank makanan, satu langkah untuk melawan kemiskinan daripada meningkat sekaligus menyebabkan si miskin disingkirkan dan menjadi gelandangan. Bank makanan ini bekerjasama dengan rakan kongsi daripada pelbagai sektor untuk mengumpulkan lebihan makanan dan barang-barang runcit dan mengedarkannya semula kepada fakir. Penyokong utama termasuk pasar raya dan pasar raya besar seperti Tesco, Econsave, The Store dan SEGI.
Dengan usaha yang bertahun-tahun dan kesedaran berterusan terhadap misinya, pada Februari 2018, KSK telah dianugerahkan anugerah Kepimpinan CSR Dunia untuk ‘Kecemerlangan dan Kepimpinan dalam Mengurangkan Kemiskinan’ ketika sambutan Hari CSR Sedunia di Mumbai, India.
Tidak dipersoalkan lagi, pertambahan jumlah sukarelawan KSK yang terdiri daripada pelbagai lapisan masyarakat dan kumpulan umur merupakan aset penting kepada objektif sosial KSK. Mereka merupakan tulang belakang kerja KSK dan penggerak di belakang komitmen terhadap orang miskin dan gelandangan yang KSK rujuk sebagai ‘klien’.
Kami ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada kerajaan Malaysia di atas sokongan terhadap KSK yang membolehkan KSK menjadi sebahagian daripada program yang memberikan manfaat kepada masyarakat ini.
