Vegetable farms in Bukit Tinggi – Pahang State
I came across this post online which I wanted to share with you all. The young man who took these photographs was visiting his family’s vegetable farm in Bukit Tinggi, a highland district in Malaysia that is known for its agricultural industry. The farms and orchards here supply fresh fruit and vegetables to local markets and restaurants in Bukit Tinggi village itself as well as in nearby Bentong, where Kechara Forest Retreat is located.
Nestled on the Titiwangsa mountain range, the Bukit Tinggi district and its namesake village are about 35km north of Kuala Lumpur and 20km south of Bentong. Bukit Tinggi Village (Malay: Kampung Bukit Tinggi) is also the nearest village to Genting Highlands, a popular mountain resort in Central Malaysia, and therefore sees many weekenders and tourists stopping by to bring home produce from these farms. While farms and orchards such as the one featured below are a common sight in this area, out in the countryside, the landscape gives way to lush rainforests, sweeping valleys and majestic mountains.

How to get there
Bukit Tinggi Village is located along the Karak Highway, about 35km north of Kuala Lumpur, or 20km south of Bentong. From Kechara Forest Retreat, it is an approximately 35min drive.
Exits off the Karak Highway and into the village are clearly marked. Once you arrive there, ask any of the friendly locals where the nearest farms and orchards are that you can visit. The local restaurants are easy to locate in the heart of the small village.

Never really know Bukit Tinggi until I started going to Bentong and seeing the road sign on the highway. And one thing come to my surprise was that the best quality ginger is actually from Bukit Tinggi and not Bentong. I think it because all the vegetables and farming products are sent to Bentong to be sold. I have the opportunity to eat in one of the restaurant in Bukit Tinggi and found some stalls selling fresh vegetables, ginger and fruits. Very fresh. We in Malaysia are so fortunate as we have good weather and beautiful landscape for various types of plantation. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this article.
