Why does Vajra Yogini remove her own head?
Ucheyma is a form of Vajra Yogini. Her body is orange in color instead of the usual red as in other forms of Vajra Yogini. The meditation on this form of Vajra Yogini confers the ability to cut the root of our sufferings from the source. The lineage comes from the illustrious Panchen Lama of Tibet. A highly blessed practice.
Ucheyma: The Severed Head Goddess Vajra Yogini
Ucheyma’s (Tibetan; Sanskrit: Chinnamasta) awe-inspiring depiction as a self-decapitating goddess has inspired generations of practitioners since the introduction of tantric practice in ancient India that spread to Russia, Mongolia, Bhutan, Nepal, China, Tibet, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and now the world. Tantra has been brought to the world in it’s pure form by the many Tibetan lamas. Ucheyma’s practice had migrated north to Tibet, where she is known as Dorje Neljorma Ucheyma. Both Ucheyma and Chinnamasta literally mean, “she whose head is severed.” Her practice has inspired a Hindu counterpart who is part of the ten Mahavidyas, avatars of Devi, the Mother Goddess. There are a number of temples dedicated to this goddess throughout India till this day.
Her actual meditation for the initiated is quite profound as it offers the complete path in developing great compassion and the eradication of our ego that fools us into thinking all phenomena exist as they seem. This false view of existence is what binds us into the endless round of rebirth, death and bardo in the six realms of samsara since beginningless time. In dependence on the Vajra Yogini practice countless great practitioners both male female have cut the bonds of their suffering and became fully enlightened. Vajra Yogini in all her forms is the most supreme practice of our age due to her special karmic affinity with the people of this time. It would be most auspicious to find a qualified lama to guide us in the preliminaries until we are ready to be initiated into this supreme tantra of Vajra Yogini.
Without initiation one is not allowed to do her meditations nor mantra, but it is permissible to keep her paintings, pictures and statues in our personal shrines. We may offer prayers for her blessings in our journey to enlightenment. Her blessings are powerful. In this way we can make an affinity with her until the right time we can engage in her practice. All results need a cause. The cause will resemble the results. Praying to Vajra Yogini will fruition into encountering the dharma and eradicating our sufferings eventually. Keep Vajra Yogini close to your heart always.

My personal Ucheyma statues
These are my personal Ucheyma statues, offered to me recently by a student. They are made out of wood and I had them painted up. The 17.5″ statue was painted gold with an antique finish, and my 24″ statue was painted in full colour, according to the description of this Goddess in her sadhana. I wanted to share these images here as a blessing to plant seeds of Vajra Yogini and enlightenment.
