Dear Joshua Akers, having all your dharma things thrown out means you are on the right path. Nothing big and good comes without huge obstacles. I worked at Fotomat making like US$380-$400 per month and my rental was US$280 per month. So I had literally $100 to survive monthly..I don’t know how I did it… I ate alot of canned beans, bread and liver that time. Liver was super cheap and came in big packages. I was super determined to survive and rather not if I cannot do dharma. I met my guru. Went to work at three part time jobs simultaneously and gradually things became better. Saved up enough and got myself to India (Gaden Monastery). The poverty was not over in Gaden either. I struggled for years in Gaden till I got some sponsors. But I was very happy to be a monk and in Gaden and that was back in 1987 when I first entered Gaden..one of the best days of my life….Don’t give up no matter what. So much does not matter. Go to my blog, I have free huge file Buddha pictures you can download, frame and hang up. I have many sadhanas available for you to print out…start there. Start. Good luck. You will be ok..really.
