The Mysterious Vault B Door at Padmanabhaswamy Temple
Dear friends around the world,
I have always been a big fan of spiritual, metaphysical, mystical, historical and paranormal related subjects. I even have a special section on this blog dedicated to paranormal articles.
What interests me is discovering how ancient knowledge has made an impact on the modern era. For instance, there are many ancient structures from a few thousand years ago that still remain standing even to this day. This shows how advanced the building techniques were back then. Even with the modern technologies and cutting-edge machinery available in this era, we are still unable to replicate the structures of times gone by. Were the ancients really that advanced or did they have help from an unknown source?
This article is particularly interesting as it covers possible paranormal explanations for this phenomena. I personally believe that extraterrestrial beings do exist as the Buddha has taught that there are multiple universes apart from the one in which we live. Therefore, it logically follows that it is impossible there are no other sentient beings in the multiverse apart from our little planet.
I hope you enjoy the article.

Ancient Treasures Hidden in Padmanabhaswamy Temple
The secrets were shrouded in mystery in temple’s six secret vaults, not opened for thousands of years. The Supreme Court on 21.07.17 had appointed a five-member expert committee headed by National Museum director general CV Ananda Bose to supervise unearthing and preserving the temple’s assets. The ASI and RBI representatives were also members.
The only method to open it was Garuda mantra or open sesame. Thus, with the court order, the team gained forced entry to the vault. “We are not happy that HC is allowing opening of the vaults,” reacted the royal family.
Vault B was the last to be opened and the findings left the world dumbfounded. An object, suspected to be an extraterrestrial unidentified flying object (UFO) and seven perfectly preserved mummies, again thought to be ancient beings, left all in a quagmire.
“The object measuring 30x10x8 metres which cannot be opened, is totally puzzling,” said Australian historian journalist Peter Allen Ryan. “It contains no magnetic material and making a hole into it proved futile,” he said, adding “Though I have seen many such ancient discoveries, but nowhere else were the mummies so perfectly preserved.”

Hindu temple – Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple – dedicated to Lord Vishnu is located in Thiruvananthapuram. Its principal deity, Padmanabhaswamy, is enshrined in Anantha-sayanam posture (in eternal sleep or Yoganidra on serpent Anantha). It drew the world’s attention in recent days. This is the wealthiest institution and place of worship of any kind in the recorded history of the world in terms of precious metals and precious stones.
There are reliable historical documents or other sources to determine exactly when and by whom the original idol of the deity was built. Some noted scholars, writers and historians, like the late Dr. L A Ravi Varma of Travancore, have said that this enigmatic temple was set up on the first day of Kali Yuga, which is over 5,000 years ago. Some sources believe it was built in the 16th Century by Travancore kings. The Travancore Maharajah bears the title, “Sree Padmanabhadasa’ (Servant of Lord Padmanabha). The shrine is currently run by a trust headed by the royal family of Travancore since independence. Travancore Maharajahs are Cheras and descendants of the great saint Kulashekhara Alwar.
Travancore kings stored immense riches within the thick stone walls and vaults of the temple, according to locals. The Travancore kingdom merged with the princely state of Cochin after 1947 and eventually became the present state of Kerala. Besides immeasurable wealth of about 1 lakh crore worth of gold, the committee which was employed takes into account its value based on ancient and historical facts; the value of the treasure will be approximately ten times of the value estimated right now. The treasure includes ancient gold chains, diamonds, rubies and precious stones, silver vessels, and gold statues the value of which is humanly impossible to evaluate in terms of money, bags full of golden coins of different nations including Napoleon and Italin.
This mysterious temple containing six vaults has long been shrouded in mystery, reminiscent of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves or an Indiana Jones movie. Legend has it that there is an ancient curse that will befall those who defile the sacred site. In the 1930s, treasure hunters tried to open the temple, and as soon as they did, deadly serpents emerged from one of the vaults. For a very long time, no-one dared to open the temple as many were afraid of the ancient curse. The inspection of the temple began after SC appointed a seven-member panel to enter and assess the value of objects stored in its cellars, including two chambers last thought to have been opened about 150 years ago.
In 2001, archaeologists with the help of temple priests opened the underground chambers to discover six chambers, labelling the vaults A to F. What they found inside left them startled – gold coins dating back thousands of years, gold necklaces as long as nine feet and weighing about 2.5 kg, about one tonne of the yellow metal in the shape of rice trinkets, sticks made of the yellow metal, sacks full of diamonds, gold ropes, thousands of pieces of antique jewellery studded with diamonds and emeralds, crowns and other precious stones lay scattered in A chamber.
All these things were strewn and scattered everywhere, recalls justice CS Rajan, a 75-year-old retired Kerala High Court judge who was part of the team that entered the vault, called a kallara.
“They were not really arranged systematically. There were baskets, some earthen pots, some copper pots where all these things were kept. It was a magnificent experience. There are no words to describe it.”
Later, they unearthed more surprising artefacts. Among them were 7 kg of gold coins dating back to the East India Company period, 18 coins from Napoleon’s era, precious stones wrapped in silk bundles beside over 1,000 kg of gold coins and trinkets and a small elephant made of the yellow metal. There were also sovereigns bearing the 1772 seal indicating they were from the reign of the then native king Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma.
It is believed that any attempt to open the mysterious vault B with man-made technology will result in catastrophes that will occur in and around the temple. Vault B must not be opened other than by chanting. The origin of this temple is lost in antiquity. The secret vault can be opened by a highly erudite ‘sadhu’ or ‘tantrik’ who is familiar with the knowledge of extricating ‘Naga Bandham’ or ‘Naga Pasam’ by chanting a ‘Garuda Mantra’. The door can’t be opened by any other means. It posed a challenge as no powerful ‘siddhapurushas’ or ‘yogis’ or ‘tantriks’ were available in India or in the world.
Many believe the historic shrine conceals greater riches still. On the day the first vault was opened, the court team also tried to open a second, known as Kallara B. However, the door, with its heavily rusted, old-fashioned lock with three levers requiring three separate keys, was jammed shut.
“It is a peculiar kind of old-time lock, and it is very much rusted,” recalls Rajan. “The blacksmith could not open it, and we did not want to break open the door, being a part of the temple and all.”
According to an ancient legend, the mysterious vault B was guarded by serpents. In 1933, British writer Emily Gilchrist Hatch described one attempt.
“When the state needed additional money, it was thought expedient to open these chests and use the wealth they contained,” she wrote.
“A group of people got together and attempted to enter the vaults with torches. When they found them infested with cobras they fled.” However, former CAG Vinod Rai dismissed it, saying that it has been opened at least seven times to his knowledge since 1990. However, what’s inside has not been revealed. There are those who think vault B contains even more incredible ancient treasures. The mysterious Padmanabhaswamy Temple could be termed India’s own El Dorado.

I had not heard of the temple before today, and I admit I find it fascinating. Clearly the controlling family can see the value of maintaining the mystery – hence the lack of pictures or any verifiable information. It’s interesting that there is a dispute about whether the door has actually been opened, and even complete disagreement about whether it is a door, with 3 locks and hinges, or a solid sheet of steel.
So I find it frankly hilarious that a completely unsubstantiated claim that there is a UFO inside can be taken seriously.
And the mummies too – the pictures in this article are from Egypt. You can find that easily via Google search.
I can’t wait to hear when the truth about vault B is eventually revealed, but this is clearly not it.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing the interesting article about the mysterious Vault B door at Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The article published by Beyond The Horizon, State News, has proven to everyone that there are greater forces with mystical power from other places or outer universe beyond our earth existence. I personally believe that those ancient civilizations that can communicate and connect to greater beings, were spiritually and sacredly well lived that enable them to have positive karma to possess such great wealth and supernatural powers which are beyond our current advanced technology. Moreover, opening the Vault B Door seems to be a challenge to many as the Vault B door can only be opened by chanting Garuda mantra through highly erudite yogi. This has shown that our current generation has greatly degenerated spiritually where religion practice was greatly emphasized and marked as an importance aspect during the ancient times.
May all the religion practices that cultivate peace, harmony, compassion, selflessness and other good morality will grow and increase to counter against the fast degenerating time of ours. May world peace will become a reality through the compassion and blessings from all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and deities.
Thank you with folded hands,
kin hoe
I am sure the world can’t wait for what could the final revelation of all the things they will discover in the vaults of the temple. After going through quite a lot of information about extra terrestrials, and how the world’s top governments react to the presence of aliens, it seems most of the advanced nations would rather keep a secret of their dealing with beings of alien origin. What could be the reason why they do that?
Such historic and spiritual places are mysterious and therefore also famous in movies as people want to know more about the hidden treasures that they carry and interesting facts about it.
I believe that the snakes / cobras can be nagas who are the guardians of this most precious place. In fact, the truth about this Vault B Door is probably much more amazing than Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. Thank you for sharing about this hidden treasure.
Wow! This article just reminds me of an Indiana Jones or Lara Croft story/movie. Mysterious tombs/chambers with wonderous treasures of the past, deadly curses that guard these secrets, horrors of the guardians (in case the cobras) and so forth. India has such richness from the past, legacies of the Maharajas, Masters from different religions and now it seems from extraterrestrials. Would love to know the secret that is behind vault B with its seemly impossible access which uses mantras. How magical can that get?
Thanks for sharing this amazing article with us Rinpoche, a fantasy that is an actual reality. Just imagine the many fantastic secrets that are still hidden from the world.
This is a fascinating article on ancient treasures and technology that inspire Hollywood movies such as Indiana Jones etc. What I find most fascinating is the finding of an UFO object and Vault B’s doors that can’t be opened. It is believed that only a highly practiced yogi can open it by chanting Garuda mantra. This sounds surreal in modern society as it defies all conventional sciences.
There are definitely higher forms of wisdom beings around during those days who have the technology to build such secure doors. The technology used during those days were far more superior than today’s. What’s suspicious is that the mainstream modern science community seems to shy away from investigating further into these ancient technologies. Instead of being open to the exploration of the truth, it gives me the impression that there are other hidden agendas that stop conventional scientists from finding out more about the past and being OK with rewriting human civilization and human evolution.
There are so many theories as to why this is so. Perhaps making these discoveries mainstream may create turbulances in the equilibrium of various belief systems. And the leaders of our communities may either feel that they are not ready to take on the consequences that will arise from these discoveries or would rather use the current belief system to control the masses.
I noticed that even Forbes wrote about this temple and the trillion dollar worth of treasures kept in the vaults. Here’s the link https://www.forbes.com/sites/jimdobson/2015/11/13/a-one-trillion-dollar-hidden-treasure-chamber-is-discovered-at-indias-sree-padmanabhaswam-temple/#444596001ba6
“The door can’t be opened by any other means. It posed a challenge as no powerful ‘siddhapurushas’ or ‘yogis’ or ‘tantriks’ were available in India or in the world.”
People used to be perform spiritual ritual, chanting, making offerings and prayers to God, naga, fairies and invoke protectors for protection, for rain, for illness even for important decisions in their lives. Hence The Vault B Door at Padmanabhaswamy Temple is guarded by special Chant to protect the jewels from stolen. What a brilliant idea. If not the jewels would have been taken by the British during 1933.
Today most of the people believe in science and technology. People has lost touch with the spiritual part in their daily life. But this amazing Padmanabhaswamy Temple has proven to the world that the power of the spiritual world does exist and still stay strong today. I believe if one day the God’s will is to open the Vault B door, the real siddhapurushas will appear at the door step of the temple.
I really enjoyed reading and love this interesting topic very much. So much mysteries hidden inside this door. Just something like the movie called “The Mummy”. Hope to read more articles like this one! Thank you very much Rinpoche and blog team for this amazing write up!?
Reading this article, reminding me of my favorites, adventurous movies like treasure hunting into sacred places. I never thought the ancient curses thing truly exist as I know most information is from movies. What more exciting was the mantras recitation to open those vault doors. To me, I think Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a mystic and enchanted place and could partially be one of the wonders of the world.
Article like the above is interesting because of the architecture in the ancient time is so advanced. Same goes for the Egypt pyramid. It is incredible how they can plan and built it with minimal tools unlike modern days we have crane, excavator, etc. More interesting is how they can seal it with a mantra or curse.
It’s interesting to know this ancient temple had such a myth in order to open the vault. When I read about it sound like those in the movie but I think those in the movie was inspired by the true experienced.
The mysterious door of Vault B is considered sacred and risky by the Trust members and other learned astrologers.
Vedic Astrologers of India tried to open the door, but they were unable to open the door by chanting the secret Garuda mantra. If this mantra is chanted properly by some Sadhu, the automatically opens up without any human effort needed to open it. Adding to the belief that Garuda drives away mighty serpents from our way.
As of now, people from other side could listen to the sounds of water or sounds made by snakes as guessed. Till date no one knows what exactly is behind the vault. There must be a reason to be protected as such. I strongly believe when the right time arrived it will be open by the right person for the right reason.
Hope the government will respect this temple and only use the right means to open the vault.
It’s so amazing that since thousand of years ago people already have such high technologies in constructing strong and amazing building that till today we may not necessary be able to achieve. Also it is just amazing that the mummies found in the temple were so well preserved. While many scientists and archeologists are trying their best to find out how, what and where about all this mysteries findings, I hope they use the right method to get into these place and with respect. After all , these places are suppose to be holy .
This article and other articles of lost and found ancient civilisation, their culture and their spiritual practices plus the advanced technology of their infra structure reminded me of the series of the 1980s fantasy/action movies, Indiana Jones starring Harrison Ford. In such movies, the storyline could have been exaggerated to add spice to the story for ticket sales. Archaeologists have over decades uncovered many of these ruins where they found artefacts and mummified remains of the people who once lived there. These findings lead many to believe that those people who lived back then could have received help or taught by another race of highly intelligent race probably not from Earth. I wonder why scientists of today, with advanced state-of-the-art technology and equipment, could not conclusively conclude how such marvels exist in ancient time. Or could scientist have proof but were clamped shut by their government. Maybe the governments feel that the people are not ready for the truth about intelligent extraterrestrial life forms. And perhaps the governments do not want the people to debunk the idea of the one god theory. Whatever the reasons are, the proof is there from all these archaeological excavations.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing.
5000 years with amazing technology.
Opening the vault by secret mantra is similar to voice recognition/sensor these days.
People has super natural those day but as time goes by it degenerate.
???Thank you
Reading this article made me realised how connected the world had been and we at these modern times of quoting a borderless world through the internet is nothing spectacular with the development of modern technology, as it had always been as far back as 5,000 years ago and without current technology. Or there was even in ancient times?
Astonishing to find out that within the vaults of a temple built 5,000 years ago there are UFO objects and precious objects like gold coins and treasures from the era of the Napolean. Makes me wonder how these coins were delivered to India from Italy.
Ancient discoveries also show me how innovative ancient people were to have travelled far and near without modern mode of transportation like aeroplanes, trains and motor vehicles.
Amazingly interesting article and thank you Rinpoche for the knowledge from your blog.
Amazing…… it really widen my knowledge to know more of this mysterious temple with fantastic stories behind it . The origin of the Temple of Sree Padmanabhaswamy is lost in antiquity which the locals referred to. This temple has been a fascination in India for many thousands of years and has concealed in mystery and fear having interesting legends surrounding the temple. Researchers discovered mysterious six vaults and unearthed mass treasures of golds etc.. It reminds me of Indiana Jones movie though. According to an ancient legend, there is an ancient curse on those who defile the sacred site and open those vaults which they did except vault B. Not until recently they managed to open after few attempts to open that particular vault .What was inside was amazing … an extra terrestrial unidentified flying object (UFO) and preserved mummies, and more has not been revealed so far. But I guess vault B contains even more incredible ancient treasures and even more surprising artifacts.
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this amazing discovery.
Wow! The Padmanabhaswamy temple built circa 5000 years ago left the world astonished by the amount of wealth it contains. Treasures and gold coins tucked away in the secret vaults that were rumoured to be guided by curse and had never been opened actually have various gold coins and treasures that can be traced to rather recent eras, like the British India Company time and the Napolean time. More bewildering than the trans-era treasures is the technology used to access the secret vaults – by sound (mantra). It is advance even by today’s standard. I can’t wait to read more about what else have been discovered alongside the opening of the last vaults. Thank you for this sharing.
