Baby Jane parody
The original Baby Jane clip
Dear friends,
I have always enjoyed the acting of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. They are some of my favorites. As they aged, it was harder for them to find acting roles as they did when they were in their heyday. But yet, they were world famous and household names. They were chosen to play a melodramatic psycho movie called “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane” to revive their careers.
The black and white movie was about two sisters who were actors of yester-years but the acting jobs did not come in anymore. Art imitates life? So they lived together. Jane who was a child star never got over the fact she couldn’t become a adult actor terrorized her wheelchair bound sister Blanche Hudson. Blanche was once a famous Hollywood starlet also. They played out their dramas with eachother reflecting on all that had happened to a surprising and twisted end.
It has become one of my favorite movies of all time. I have watched it numerous times. And had friends also watch it with me. The acting is stupendous. The dramatic plot is twisted yet well done. Both Bette Davis and Joan Crawford surprised the Hollywood community and the world for producing such a unexpected hit!! It was a magnificent piece of work! It was a huge hit!! It has since become a cult legend. So many both professional and otherwise have done parodies of the two actresses in this movie (just go on youtube and find).
In one of the memorable scenes that I have included a clip for you. Do watch the short original clip. Then our own Kechara members have parody Baby Jane and her sister Blanche Hudson. Very funny.
Watch as Andrew and William play out the part first. Followed by Sarah Yap and David Lai. Tell me which team did a parody that was closest to the original and why?
You will enjoy this. Watch the original then our Kechara actors. Get ready for Kechara’s Baby Jane!!

The four of them are just wonderful actors! I really enjoy watching the acts. There are different parts for each character that really sound or look like the one in the real Baby Jane movie. They are just fabulous people that are able to act so well.
Oh my my so funny! What a classic… really epic hahaha… I enjoyed watching our own actors… Bravo all! We’ve watched this with Rinpoche so many times, it is truly a classic! I really liked Andrew’s acting, he remembered his lines well and was the smoothest amongst the actors… he did Baby Jane very well 😉 Sarah is fierce lol but very funny.
William looked a bit stiff but funny too and David not bad… but seems more seductive then poor me. Overall they all did well, not bad, not bad!
So entertaining and the award goes to …………….ANDREW very cool.
This is so funny. I remember BABY JANE so well……Rinpoche had played it 4 years ago when I joined ladrang. Rinpoche is good with the script….Rinpoche can remember so well, the same with all the madonna lyrics. Rinpoche said at that time , his good memory is attributed to his Manjushri practice thus Rinpoche remembers things so well. For me, I will probably need to swallow the whole manjushri statue.
Hahah this is hilarious.
I think all four of them did pretty well. William’s accent and expressions is so cute.. and surprisingly, Sarah did very well, her expression in her tone/voice portrayed came out well.
Can see that they are all trying to control their laughter. hehe. If I’d to choose, I would choose Andrew and William.. Andrew had more expressions/emotions and acting going on eg. walking around, slamming the door..
Needless to say, well done to all four for being such great sports.
Both teams are quite good. I can’t choose which team is better but individually, for Jane’s character I’ll choose Andrew… he acted well and can remember his lines; as for Blanche’s character I’ll choose David.
In original movie, both Bette Davis and Joan Crawford excellent in their respective roles; Bette really good at playing the psycho baby Jane. However, hehe the best acting award should goes to Rinpoche (in Video On Go)!
Hahaha yeah and Rinpoche doesn’t have to rehearse his lines. He can remember them after all these years. I cannot believe how much Rinpoche can remember. There are even some songs, he remembers them so well and can sing them after so many years. It’s just amazing. It goes to show how much we can actually remember if we put our efforts towards remembering them. Well, it helps if we engage in Manjushr’s practice.
Andrew’s acting reminds me of those fierce and mean mother in law in Hong Kong Cantonese movies! William is surprisingly good in acting out Blanche’s plight and helplessness by his voice. So natural. I can even feel how he is wheel chair-bounded every time he emphasises his plights by patting the sofa. Sarah is mean by her own style, just nice. David is emotional.
Commenting on people’s acting skills is easy, when come to us to act, will find that’s not as easy as we think. I enjoy the parody, thanks to our Kechara actors, producer, cameraman and director, hehe.
Aiyor!!!! This is just so funny. I hate watching myself and I must admit, I couldn’t remember my lines very well. I think that Andrew did a great job and he’s just amazing because he didn’t have to rehearse that much and he could remember his lines and put a good show.
This is really funny! thanks Rinpoche for sharing.
All four of them have been acting very well. Kecharian can act too! 🙂
Hard to chose which team is better, if need to chose, i would chose Andrew & William as Andrew is acting out the bitchiness of Jane. hehehe.
Andrew, William, Sarah and David, didn’t know you guys are such a great actor. I think Andrew was the closest one as Baby Jane. You guys even followed all the lines. I wonder how long four of you took to rehearse the scene. Wonderful job. We want more!! heheh…
Feeling creepy when watching the Baby Jane video clip. Andrew and William pairing acted well, good pace. Sarah and David pairing slight hurried. Sarah is surprising good. David is a bit over. 🙂 All are good actors, got potential! Cheers!
Hehehe….. it was really fun acting out the parody. Andrew was really great as Jane! He got into the role quickly. I can really appreciate the work as an actor as they have to remember lines and get into character. It took me quite some time to remember my lines and luckily there were not that long. But the lesson to learn is that to get out of our comfort zone and put all ego aside. All in all was a good laugh when we look back at our acting!
I must say Sarah is a good sport and funny too!
This isn’t a parody, it’s the same script performed by different actors. A parody would be, for example, if “Jane” and “Blanche” were arguing about Kechara Forest Retreat.
Come on! Don’t you have anything positive to say? Who did you like out of the 4 actors?
Well done the four actors!!! Great that you could remember the lines!!!!! As for which team was closest, it is tough cos i dont think either of them could have gotten Bette Davis’ evilness.. but then not even well established actors/actresses could get that either… but it was a fantastic job by these two amateur teams and if i had to pick, i would choose Andrew and William’s team… because they were both quite natural in their acting!
Yes! I pick them too and Andrew is a good actor! Hmmmm….i meant in a positive way. You are right Sharon, not many actors can come close to Bette Davis’ evilness. She is a classic!
I wonder what all this will lead to? Kechara Motion Pictures????
Thanks William, Andrew, Sarah and David… U all are good actors, David is so awesome in the video… Thanks Rinpoche for sharing this video clip with us…
