Dharma Games
One thing I like about Kecharians is that they know when to work hard and when to play hard. They are really dedicated to the Dharma… so when they have worked very hard, I like to reward them.
There are some games that I like to play with my students. One of them is called the ‘Earring Game’, it was covered by Kechara.com earlier last year. I call it the Earring Game because when we first played it, I used an earring. However, you can use any object.
So for the Earring Game, I basically hide a very small object in a big room… and whoever finds the object first will win a prize! The prize could be anything, however it’s usually a Dharma prize like statues, tsa tsas or pendants.
There are a few reasons why I like to play this game. I like my students and friends so much and just want to find reasons to give them things….
Another reason is that the game really shows you what your mind is like. How people search for the earring is a reflection of the way their mind works. And sometimes I will throw in ultimatums like “If you give your prize back, then we can all play again for an even bigger prize” and it is fun to see how different people react! Hehe
So even from a game, you can actually learn a lot.
The game is very very fun to play. It’s fun to run around, let loose and relax with your close friends. I can’t tell you how funny it is to watch a group of grown adults, who can be quite serious… running around a room and looking everywhere imaginable for a very small object!!
Recently, I played the Earring Game again with some of my students. Below are photos of the winners of the night…how exciting! I’m very happy that they were able to win these Buddhas statues.
It has also been a long time since I played the Earring Game. We have been working very hard for the last few weeks on various projects, so it was nice to sit down and catch up with some of my students whom I have not seen in a while…
I hope to play this game with many more of my friends in the future hehe… Maybe I’ll change it and make the game bigger, and the prizes bigger also, who knows? Many Kecharians love this game and always asked when will we do it again… heheheheh

Having some midnight supper… we all love Indian food!
Andrew Boon found the 3rd earring that was hidden. He was then given 3 bags to choose from… he chose the first bag… and inside was the beautiful Vajrayogini!
Dr Jiang won twice! As an acupuncturist, he has to be very precise, detailed and focused… I guess it pays off! Hehe Here he is with 3 beautiful Tara statues.
The biggest winner of the night! James won 7 Tara statues in 1 night!! Six 8″ Tara statues… and one 2″ Tara statue.
All 15 of these people were participants of the Earring Game! Pastor Loh Seng Piow (center) found the earring and won himself one of the most beautiful statues I’ve seen so far… the fasting Buddha!

I remember as i was young we do played a similar games but we hide something and the rest went looking for it. Its fun . Thank you Rinpoche for sharing and i did recall back some memories when i was young.
One of Favourite game is earring game.. Rinpoche always play this game is all the time.. Earring game is not the game .. It makes u think and find way to look for earring.. It is always a pleasure and participate learn from the game .. It is not about wining it is about let go what u have ha ha ha
Sounds like a really fun game to play. Rinpoche always comes up with exciting things to do with his students. And makes it interesting to learn the dharma. Congratulations to all the winners!
It was fun!
Searching around the area looking for something small.
It really test your focus and attention. With the clue given it tested your wisdom and awareness.
Rinpoche was so kind to keep offering us the prizes. They are all buddha statues. Lovely.
Love this game!
Thank you Rinpoche.
I love the earring games with Rinpoche. It is really fun and from the tenacity of the participants, you know how their characteristic are. Some does not give up, some are really focus and determine and some are just laid back and do not mind not getting anything.
It’s a good way to get to know your team mates. Hehehe.
It is a simple game that gives participants to interact. It also teaches that it is all right not to win at times or all the time. It’s good, clean fun!
It is nice to see that being in Dharma is fun and … rewarding.
Rinpoche is applying skillful means to teach the Dharma and better his students. I wonder what my reaction would be if I was given a choice to put back MY gift for a better one that I may not win! Hehehe…
is it a game or is it dharma in action. anything that rinpoche does it gives clues to the students their state of mind and also for Rinpoche to check them out. And prizes are always something you really want. The best price is laughing your head off hehe
Thank you so much for posting this, you have inspired me to do something like this. i never knew that games and Dharma went together!
Looks really fun hehehe…i really wish i can take part someday 🙂

Hhehe, I remember when I first volunteered in Kechara, this was one of the stories that people told me about – about the games Rinpoche plays with His students. Like the pick game, to test where our minds are, this game sounds like a whole lotta fun and laughter. Hope that I can take part in it one day! 🙂
