LAMRIM Mind Map
(By Tsem Rinpoche)
Two of my friends, Lili Ng and Thierry Janssens came out with a creative idea to summarise the Lamrim – in mind map form and offered it up to me in April 2010. This mind map is a overview of one of Buddhism’s holiest texts, and the book upon which we base our lineage.
They used Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand: A Concise Discourse on the Path to Enlightenment by Pabongka Rinpoche as the source text and summarised the whole Lamrim with the corresponding parts, major headings, main gists, page numbers, and there were even drawings of the wheel of life on the lower right corner of the mind map.
Thierry did a great job with the mind map module and Lili did the drawing/layout/handwriting of the mind map. It was beautifully framed and currently I had it displayed in Kechara House 2. Thierry and Lili are such a fantastic creative team!!!!! I am so amazed with this mind map. I love it. I love it.
Both Lili and Thierry attended the Lamrim classes held weekly at Kechara House which Liaison Ngeow taught.
Lili is also a regular volunteer at Kechara Saraswati Arts, where she has recently been working on the restoration of my personal statue of my root guru His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche. Lili is very talented. Extremely talented.
This was the letter that came with the mind map, click here.

They did this with so much research, care, and great love. It is so fantastic. It blew my mind away to receive such a beautiful gift with so much meaning. I am still amazed with it. I wanted to blog it weeks back when I first recieved it but was ill and I didn’t just want it put up without much thought. So here it is.
Everyone, take a really good look at it.
It came framed and with such a beautiful letter. My Dear Lili and dear Thierry, thank you so much for your great gift which I APPRECIATE SO VERY MUCH!!!!

Mind mapping is a great help for ‘Lamrimpa’. It benefits all level of practitioners eventhough one may not have read Lamrim by H. H. Pabongka Rinpoche before.

It is so amazing and useful… Thanks Thierry and Lili…. I frame it in my house, it is very nice and a good reminder for all.
How amazing to summarise such complicated texts into a simplified and interesting one. Must have taken a lot of time and effort to have it properly spread out. With deep appreciation for your kindness and intelligence.
Dearest Thierry and Lili,
Your Lamrim picture that you created speaks thousand words, but your motivation to create merit and dedicate to Rinpoche’s long life and manifestation for KMPC is so remarkable, and it does not speak thousand of words but billions and billions of words, as all of us who read and study your painstaking roadmap would gain so much in Lamrim knowledge.
Your action is another GURU DEVOTION setting a real life example that I have been witnessed from many other Rinpoche’s students. You all are so wonderful as you always demonstrate Rinpoche’s teachings through actions to bring dharma to help and encourage others to learn. Thank you so much..
Dearest Rinpoche,
My heartfelt thanks to you for sharing this wonderful gift with us all. Please take care and I hope will see you soon.

WOW! This mind map is AMAZING! I’ve often thought to do something similar.
Mastery of the Lamrim was one of the first tasks Pabongka Rinpoche had to complete before Rinpoche could progress with Rinpoche’s spiritual growth and attainments. This should show the significance of the Lamrim teachings.
It is so kind and generous of Thierry and Lily to take so much time and effort to condense the teachings into an easy to refer to mind map. Also deep gratitude to Tsem Rinpoche for sharing this map with us on this blog!
I agree with Peter about taking things for granted, including our human life form and our Rinpoche. We take our life for granted because we have it easy this life. We take out Guru for granted because H.E is compassionate. We may gain a lot this lifetime by taking advantage of things and people but this habit causes detrimental results, which will manifest in our next lifetime when it is too late.
Now, we have the ability to contemplate, understand and realize the Dharma. If we do not use this well, we may return in the 3 lower realms. Think: if I am in the 3 lower realms, how will I be able to practice the Dharma to get out? The answer to that is “You cannot”. So, take refuge in the Dharma NOW and use our limited time to develop the habit of giving.
Terima Kasih Rinpoche!
How splendid Thierry and Lily!
Taking the time and painstaking effort to summarise the Lamrin into a readable mind map. It’s not easy at all to condense such a large corpus of work into a mere chart.
How readily I take for granted things that are made so easily available that I do not have to earn it, therefore I do not value it.
Similarly with this precious human life, how have I taken for granted that I will come back over and over again as a human with similar conditions when reality can be quite gruesome and if by then I still don’t get it…then it’s all over again…the turtle looking for that golden loop/ring…
The Lamrim mind map is one of the most precious items one can own. Lamrim is the stages of the path to enlightenment and the mind map summarizes the main topics so that one can easily get an overview of the entire path to enlightenment. Looking at a Lamrim mind map instantly provide a visual structure of all we need to practice to attain enlightenment in our mind. I think is a fantastic tool for the study and practice of Lamrim as most people can remember things they see better than what they have read. I am one of those people and I love it.
This really is a pretty amazing work of passion, first of its kind! Fantastic.
Really Really AMAZING ! The first time i saw it at KH2 just blow my mind away. I have it now on my home PC as wallpaper can look at it everyday : ) hehehe…
Awesome! What a wonderfull thing, maybe KMP could use it as a basis for a commentary on the Lamrim.
Jon 🙂
