Update on Kuantan Study Group
I often receive updates from my students regarding the various Kechara Study Groups we have in different parts of Malaysia. Till date, we have a study group in Ipoh, Johor, Malacca and Kuantan.
Below is an update from Pastor Yek Yee regarding our Kuantan Study Group. This group have been working hard to spread the Dharma in Kuantan. Also, whenever there are activities in Kechara House, they will send representatives to attend… they travel all the way to Petaling Jaya (Kuala Lumpur) to support KH activities and events.
Recently I was informed that the group has decided to move to a larger premise to accommodate more people. I rejoice with the expansion! I was told that this new center is located at a very strategic location in Kuantan.
I sincerely thank my students in Kuantan for working hard to promote the Dharma there. Do take a look at the great news below!
Tsem Rinpoche
Dear Rinpoche,
Good afternoon.
Last Sunday I visited Kuantan Study group at afternoon. I brought Frederick Law with me on this trip. We arrived at Kuantan around 1230pm. After a simple lunch, Leonard Chia, Suet Moi, Frederick and myself went to the new shop lot which will be Kuantan Study group’s new centre very soon. We were doing a Setrap puja in the shop lot before start renovation. 10 people joined the puja. Frederick is quite helpful, he help me take pictures and prepare whatever was needed in the puja.
I like this shop lot very much. It is located in the new and popular area in Kuantan. There are many modern, trendy and fashionable shops in this area. The energy here is young, active and fresh. According to Leonard Chia the safety of this area is quite good. I think it is very good news for all of us because we have searching the new venue for centre quite a long time.
After that, we went back to centre to watch the Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche movie, Crazy Wisdom. Around 10 of us watched the movie together. After it ended, we had a very good discussion with each other. One of them asked a question, why did Trungpa Rinpoche want to set up an army team? What does the the ARMY represented? Ha… I like this kind of question, make me think more!
Then I requested them give me two similar points of Tsem Rinpoche and Trungpa Rinpoche. One of the committee members, Wei Ling, answered COKE & ALCOHOL. Everyone laughed till they teared. So funny. Some of them said, both Rinpoche’s are from East, they are reincarnations of high lamas, they are modern… they are fun and entertaining.
I like this discussion session very much. I will conduct more this kind of session with them because I noticed they can learn a lot from this sharing session. Around 8pm, the committee and myself had a regular meeting. We discussed the renovation of the new centre, updated on their regular activities in Kuantan and any problems they faced. The new centre of Kuantan Study group will start functioning at the end of April, 2012 tentatively.
Another thing to rejoice is that the Kuantan Study group has recruited 21 Kechara members. That’s all from my update of Kuantan Study group today.

I rejoice! Great benefits to your study group and those living arond this area.
I first met Leonard in last year’s Simplified Lamrim. He did travel with wife weekly on Sunday morning or the night from before from Kuantan down to KL to attend the Sunday’s Simplified class. Very dedicated, very generous, friendly and a big heart. Kuantan group is a close bunch, everyone knew each other in the town.
Congratulations to the Kuantan Study Group. I rejoice in your expansion and the dedicated effort and hard work to spread the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa which will benefit the people in the East Coast. Well done, Leonard and team and keep up the good work.

I’m really happy to hear of the growth of this study group. They’re one of the “youngest” and newest study groups but have come a long way in a short time. As well as the physical growth in renovation and creating this new center, we often hear of their many activities, organised on their own initiative to introduce Kechara and Dharma to their friends, and people in the region. Thank you to everyone there for being Dharma to a state so far away where Buddhism isn’t very common.

The Kuantan Study Group has been consistent with their puja, retreat, fund raising, social and spiritual events, and traveling to Kechara House for dharma classes.
You have outgrown your present premises and moving on to a bigger one.

Congratulation to Kuantan Group! I’ve been to Kuantan and have the honour to work with them on a outdoor event last year. They are really very committed and hardworking, and very nice people too! It is really a shame comparing my contributions to theirs.

I remembered quite awhile ago, Rinpoche had an audience with Kuantan Study Group, and Rinpoche said that if you work hard, the results will come.

Oh Yes! I was in that Audience too, during last year’s refuge/wesak celebrations if I remember correctly! I do remember that, Rinpoche told the Kuantan Study group with much confidence that if the members come together, focus on the goal and work hard, good things will manifest for them. Look at the results one year later!! 🙂

Yes, the group from Kuantan is very supportive and they take the effort to bring the dharma to East Coast to benefit the people there. Now they are growing to another level. So wonderful.

More and more people will be benighted in Kuantan.
Congratulations to Kuantan Study Group on your expansion. I remember that about two years ago, Rinpoche advised your group to do a retreat. I heard that everyone was very enthusiastic on following Rinpoche’s advice. And now look how you have grown from strength to strength in spreading Lama Tsongkhapa’s teachings in the East Coast; The result of dedication, hard work and following one’s Lama’s advice.

Thank you for the good news. Ya we are looking be part of Kechara in”legal” for long time, we got it now finally!!!Rejoice. I am so happy we can 光明正大地说：”Yeah, We are part of Kechara! ” The committees really work hard to make the group. Every month I go to there, I always get good news.
Nowadays, many new friends have start join in puja and Rinpoche’s teaching sharing session in Kuantan.Every time I go to Kuantan, sure I can meet one or two new fresh faes. That is big joy for me. On top of that, they also have many other activities such as animal liberation, kid class, gathering and so forth. If you pass by Kuantan, please call them give them support, that will a big encouragement for them.
I am sincerely thank you our KH liaison Yoke Fui and KH Pastor work very hard make all study become part of their mother temple. The sense of belonging is like a precious present.
Of course, all committees: Leonard Chia, Suet Moi, Mr Yeo, Wei Ling and Chin San, they put their heart to make this happen. It is so beautiful can see Kechara logo hanging in Kuantan “sky”!

Congratulations to you Kuantan Study Group. You are making good progress in Dharma and benefiting others. Yek Yee you are a good and caring pastor nurturing them to grow quickly. Kuantan Study Group you can become a Dharma force in East Malaysia at the rate you are growing. I would very much to visit you one day with Yek Yee. I lived in Kuantan for a few years many years ago.
