Overview
Located in Publika Shopping Mall @ Solaris Dutamas, Ichiban Boshi is one of the few Japanese restaurants available in Publika Shopping Mall. Ichiban Boshi is one of the fastest growing Japanese restaurant franchise, with several outlets around Selangor, as well as overseas in Singapore and Australia. With its modern and fuss-free outlook, Ichiban Boshi’s outlets is certainly an appeal to many people regardless of age and income bracket!
Reviewer’s Rating
Interior – 3/5
There’s nothing special about the interior of Ichiban Boshi. Like any other commercial Japanese restaurants, the interior is basic, simple and neat. There is an option to sit indoor or outdoor. Ichiban Boshi’s interior is bright and well-lit, however it is a little more cozy (and less noisy) outdoor. If you plan to dine for a while, it is advised to sit indoor as the cushioned chairs will prove to be more comfortable! For those coming in bigger groups, the restaurant can accommodate up to 10 people, but don’t expect it to be a private area!
Food – 3/5
There is nothing special about the food served at Ichiban Boshi. It is pretty much similar to most commercialized Japanese restaurants. Some dishes even taste borderline Chinese, for example the enoki mushroom (pic; below). Also, their tempura is substandard as it is somewhat oily and the absence of the good ol’ crunch brought it’s downfall. The soba noodles is a definite must-try, and their cucumber roll is also one of the best available vegetarian-friendly sushi option around. It is a refreshing snack, where the sushi is rolled to be compact and well-made, as compared to other sushi outlets where their sushi is loosely packed, and awaiting to fall apart.
Freshly made pickled ginger | Tofu salad (with a delicious sweet dressing) |
Yasai tempura | Enoki mushrooms |
Egg rice topped with Yasai tempura | Miso soup |
Oroshi soba | Cucumber roll |
Pricing – 3/5
Inchiban boshi is exemplary to: “What you pay, is what you get”. The restaurant offers reasonably good food, at a reasonable price. The pricing is pretty standard and it is what one would expect when visiting a commercial Japanese restaurant. For example, the Oroshi Soba (main meal) is priced at RM15.90 and the Tofu Salad (appetizer) is RM 5.90 for a regular-sized serving.
Vegetarian Selection – 2.5/5
There is a reasonably wide selection of vegetarian friendly dishes to choose from the menu, enough to satisfy any hungry vegetarian that walks into their restaurant! However, there is nothing special about their menu as most dishes that is offered can be obtained easily from any other Japanese restaurant.
Service – 3.5/5
The staff were very friendly, and were always busy walking around serving customers. It was easy to get their attention, and the food came reasonably fast. One negative comment about the service is that the tables were not cleared quickly enough. There were a lot of dirty plates on the other tables, and the chairs in the outdoor area were not neatly arranged.
Find your way there!

Thank You for sharing Rinpoche, the food actually looks nice! The pictures are very tempting! Hehehe… I have not heard or been to the restaurant before, but I would like to go there someday, through the photos shared I can see that the restaurant is actually quite neat! Can’t wait to eat there, feel so hungry in the middle of the night… :p
Thank you for the review Rinpoche. And i hope that because of these reviews, it will encourage more and more people to try out vegetarian food.
this looks so nice, the place looks nice and the food looks delicious. i love Japanese food and i will try to see if maybe i can eat there one day with my mum or relatives. thank you for sharing this post Rinpoche
I went to this restaurant a few times before and found the food pretty good. I like the restaurant because it is spacious, so it’s very convenient when you’re going there with a group of friends. It’s not a fantastic place, but if you happen to find yourself wanting to eat Japanese food and need one that serves fast, without caring about the quality and taste of the food, then this is a good place to go to.
