KECHARA VIDEO COMPETITION

Dear students and friends from all around the world,
About a month ago, I gave an assignment to a few of my students to come up with 1-minute videos about Kechara’s services and very wonderful products.
3 teams were selected to create promotional videos for our Kechara restaurant (Kechara Oasis), our Dharma stores (Kechara Paradise), and our publishing house for Kechara books (Kechara Media & Publications).
It was the first time any of them produced professional promotional videos… and I am very proud of them for doing their very best in directing, filming, script writing and editing these wonderful videos. The number of videos each team produced was up to them… and altogether there were 33 videos!
I thought that it would be great to create a competition for the best video, so I would like to ask all of you blog readers to VOTE!
Please do watch all the videos that our talented teams have put a lot of hard-work in creating. Give them your support and encouragement by voting! There are instructions below on how you can vote. You can vote within the next 2 weeks, after which we will tabulate the score and there will be one overall winning team. The video with the most number of votes will be awarded a grand prize for their effort… the effort of promoting Dharma creatively!

对他们每一个人来说，这一次制作专业宣传短片的经验是非常新鲜的。我为他们的专业制作和成品都感到非常骄傲。每一组人马可以制作多个宣传短片，而这一次，三组人马一共完成了33个宣传短片！
我想，举办一个比赛以选出最佳短片是一个很好的主意，因此我诚邀大家在33个短片中选出最佳短片！
我请大家观赏这三组人马精心制作的所有短片。透过参与这一次的投选活动，表达你对他们的支持和鼓励！以下将给大家说明投选的方法。你能在接下来的两个星期内投选你心目中的最佳短片，随后负责人会计算票数，而获得最多票数的短片制作队伍将获胜。获选最佳短片的队伍将获得首奖的荣誉，以鼓励制作者的用心——宣扬佛法的创意和用心。

KECHARA VIDEO COMPETITION WINNER goes to… KO01 – The Superb Kechara Vegetarian Dining Experience! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
The team that created this video consisted of Pastor Yek Yee, Pastor Adeline and Pastor Jae Jay. Well done team! Your video has convinced many that vegetarian dining is the way to go. You have made a strong statement that the New Age life-style to adopt is a wholesome lifestyle that appreciates and promotes health, longevity, and non-killing of animals as well! This is very important; the more people start adopting vegetarianism, the more lives are saved. That is the beauty of it all.
The 2nd Winning Team that came very close to winning was the team that created 11 videos for Kechara Media and Publications. They are David Lai (Script writer), Wendy Loh (Script writer), Pastor Martin Chow (Script writer), Khong Jean Mei (Producer) and Joy Kam (Director). Although your team did not win the votes here, yet we can see that those who voted for your videos gave their positive sincere feedback in the comments section. With that, you should be proud of yourselves in your achievement of creating 11 videos with 11 different scripts, which was very challenging in such a short given production timeline. Bravo to you all!
3rd Winning Team is a ONE MAN TEAM! James Long took on this project and enrolled a few Kechara members to join his team. They were Miss Han (Producer), Lai (Cameraman and Editor), Niral Patel (Script writing), and Chris (Cameraman) and they took on the challenge and created 20 Kechara Paradise Dharma outlets’ promo videos (10 in English and 10 in Chinese). Bravo to him and his team too, for creating such professionally shot videos to promote our outlets’ wonderful spiritual items.
We would also like to thank all those who participated and contributed in the making of these wonderful videos. From the hired cameraman, video editors, voice over talents, actors and actresses (mostly Kecharians), production crew, make-up artists and all those who helped behind the scenes, you know who you are, without you, none of this could have happened.

I am so pleased with the videos. They were all so good, it was hard for people to choose. The videos clearly show the wonderful facilities we have in Kechara created by the hardworking and dedicated members. I am proud of the loyal and hardworking Kecharians.

Congratulations to everyone who was involved in making the videos. With everything you have, you guys managed to produce such amazing, high quality and creative videos.. its extremely professional, and to know that most of you have had no experience in script, concept, making and producing videos. Its highly commendable.

I like vote KO02 because it can encourage more people love to be vegetarian.
All these videos are very well done, it shows how much effort has put in for producing these videos. All these videos are produced within a month and the crew behind the scene has their own busy schedule on top of making these videos. What’s not possible has always been possible in Kechara. I was surprised with the high quality video, great script that explains our Kechara’s product and professional video shooting. Normally a companies have to pay tens of thousands or even up to hundreds of thousands of money for the professionals to produce such promotional videos. But here, we did it themselves and I would say, most of the working crew are doing this first time. Isn’t it amazing?
Personally I would vote for Kechara Oasis Video. Although this video is longer than other videos, but the content of this video is very organized and script very well written. It makes me wanted to know what else the video is showing. I like also how this video is showing, with different setting for the different occasions, with the people good acting skill, it shows how much enjoyment we’ll be having in Kechara Oasis. This video brings out a message to me :

Dear Rinpoche,
All the videos are very well made according to its purpose which makes it a tough choice. Products need to be communicated differently as different products need more explanation where else some products need less explanation.
A. Best script
KMP08 David Lai Book Combo – It’s light, tells a story and well written in a non hard sell manner.
B. Best cinematography
I like all Kechara Paradise product videos because it’s is how it was shot makes the products look beautiful and sleek while being informative. How the video was laid out graphically including the animation of blog logo looks very professional. Kechara Oasis video is also well shot and edited.
C. Best in MAKING YOU WANT TO GET THE PRODUCT IN THE VIDEO
KO01 This video makes me want to go Kechara Oasis now and eat!
D. BEST OVERALL VIDEO
I vote for KMP08 David Lai Book Combo because this video creatively brings out the personality of the writer – simple, honest and humorous. In my opinion, what makes a book sell is the author. The music and simple cinematography blends well bringing out the message clearly. It’s definitely not an easy task to conceptualise an ad to sell books. Hence, I choose this video as the winner.
I would like to vote for KMP05 Eat Healthy, Daily. It is nice and different to see someone other than a Kechara member promoting Kechara itself. No doubt all the videos showcased many in-house talents and actors who all did a great job, and I really had to deliberate a long time before I chose KMP05, with Mediacorp actor Steve Yap.

我觉得这33部影片都各有所长，使我难分难舍。看了几个影片之后，我还是对KMP-04 Peace有很深的印象，是因为它只是以黑白的颜色就带出整个Peace的故事，我欣赏它的灯光，很有艺术气息在里头，也很有时尚感。
简简单单的一分钟就有了一个启示给我们。对Peace这本书更加了解，其实人生就是黑白，看自己如何把自己的人生增添色彩。

I vote for KMP07 The Promise. Although it may seem effortless in creating this video without any live filming, but at first watch in one go of all videos it really stands out. From the choices of pictures to the music, the quick flashes of graphics to the voice over be it script or the energy of projection, they all seem to come together and became so impactful and lively. And even after watching it a few more times, it still gives the same feeling to me with the urge of getting the book…..and it looks professional. Well done!

This video provides a good summary of Rinpoche’s journey (since kid till now). It tells the story in a rather modern way too.
By introducing Tsem Rinpoche to people, we can attract more people into Dharma and Kechara and the rest will follow.

Ok I LOVE David Lai’s video I think it is excellently done and a great upbeat story. I also love the Setrap video and feel it is very powerful BUT, if we can only pick one video, I think something a more general and neutral is in order attract people to the many sides of Kechara would be more effective as a lead in to a campaign.
I tried to watch this as someone who knows nothing about Kechara or anyone tied to it and little to nothing about Buddhism or Dharma. I asked myself after each video “Do I want to know more about this place, books, teacher etc etc etc now?”

I vote for KMP08 – David Lai’s Book Combo
There is something about this video that is just fluid, natural, and awesome. It’s like a skit, and reminds me personally of Charlie Brown (probably the music selection), or something similar which is endearing. I don’t know David personally but it seems to give me a strong sense of what he is about. It tells a story about David and Rinpoche, gives a to-the-point message about not giving up, and it’s all done playfully — even though we get a sense that the underlying topic is more serious. It makes me want to watch more. The videography itself is excellent but you don’t notice it, which is how it is supposed to be, since the video draws you in. You can see David pretending to type with 1 hand in a few shots, it does detract a little, but it also makes it more endearing. There are a list of endearing things: his well-done narration, reaction shots, shots where he grabs his books from the top of the frame (someone handing it to him), etc. Whoever shot this video with David, they seem to make a good team. IMO if they replaced the fake typing shots towards the end it would be flawless.
All the videos are impressive and if it’s okay I’d like to give shout-outs to these videos as well.
KO01 (English)
This is clearly the most professionally shot, with a voice actor, and higher budget. It’s technically the best one, and it’s a great ad for Kechara Oasis.
KMP06 – If Not Now, When? Love Edition
I like this video because it’s about a book, but within 1 minute it also tells (or hints) at the story of these particular characters in the video. It’s something we can relate to and it’s touching in a way. The time lapse works well and when “If Not Now, When?” pops up it emphasizes the point of the scene or thesis of the book and seems to give a good understanding of what the book is about. At the same time the video, and what it is offering, is attractive on its own, stands on its own. It’s just cool, and shows that Rinpoche’s book is practical to our everyday lives.
KMP07 – The Promise
I think this video has technically and creatively the best editing. It’s engaging, and a bit different from other Kechara videos I’ve seen. At the same time it tells a story of Rinpoche in a way that is interesting and pulls in the viewer, especially for those who aren’t too familiar with Rinpoche. It uses video effectively to summarize The Promise, which is the purpose, while the video stands on its own as well. This is done just using images with no actual footage. It’s a great narrative, like a movie trailer. I really admire this video, it’s just that in the contest it can’t stand against some of these other videos working with unique footage and more production elements.
KMP04 – Peace
This video is artistic and interpretive of the actual book. So it’s not directly promoting or summarizing the book itself, but using video more artistically to demonstrate or interpret the main point. The photography and idea are both great. It’s very effective because it’s slightly different, and shows that Kechara is about different things (art) with different members, and that they can do a great job at being creative, among other things. I think it can reach some people from different backgrounds who otherwise may not be interested in some of the books.

Very nicely shot and you obviously have a great system down for doing so. The beauty is the dharma items and each video brings that out. It’s straight forward and displays the items well, instead of detracting from them.

1) well-written script – to briefy introduce and explain on the iconography of Green Tara and White Tara;

It took me forever to finally decide which video to vote.
The first thoughts on the day I saw the promotional post of this contest was, I want to vote all videos. LOL.. Then to my disappointment I am only allowed to vote one video. But of course I understand that Rinpoche picks ONLY ONE winner.
So I am voting for KMP08 – David Lai’s Book Combo. Because maybe he will give me another book if he win in this competition. 😛 Just kidding. I met David Last November at Modern Buddhist Fellowship Singapore and was pleasant meeting him in person. And he remembers me that I am one of his follower on twitter. Then He became Mr. Santa last December and he gave me a copy of “There’s No Way But Up”. Though I have not finish reading it, I feel David’s sincerity and his strong devotion to Dharma, I like his humor too. I voted David’s Video because I want him to write more books and inspire more people.

Honestly, i strongly feel that the vote for KO01 and KO02 should compile together since it is the same video, it dub in Chinese is just convenient for people who don’t understand English.
By the way, no matter who is the winner, i just wish Rinpoche’s video can spread as much as possible and to benefit as much as possible.

This short video captures in a flash the life of a monk and his noble works that had touched many lives. It encapsulates his unwavering devotion to his guru. All these beckon people’s curiosity to want to know more about Tsem Rinpoche’s promise and his biography. I have seen the videos so many times and still like them all. But life is such I only have one choice. So I vote for KMP04 as the script is direct and clear to the point. Peace is so important now for our current turbulent world.
I like the presentation and the subtle message how disturbed our minds really are if we take a good look at the mirror, which is what is portrayed well by LiKim.
The video is disturbing and makes us realise we can do something about anything when we put our minds to it and remove our own clatter.

Hi my vote is for KMP04. Visually is stunning and unexpected. Clever to use colour to express the emotion of individual. Very memorable script which in SYNC with the visual as well.
Well, I made the mistake of reading the votes and comments before I vote and as I agree with many of the comments and reasons, it makes my voting much more difficult. LOL.
I like KMP08 David Lai’s Combo for the reality feel by David and it features a real person at work and I like KO01 “Superb Vegetarian Dining…” for its overall feel, cinematography and easy to understand message. Of course, KMP06 “If Not Now When? Love Edition” for its message of taking action and faith..plus some canvassing from the “actor” hehe.
However, my vote goes to KMP07 “The Promise” for the fact that all the other videos won’t exist if “The Promise” was not made and being fulfilled. So voting for “The Promise” is like voting for all the videos. Well I am a diplomat.LOL.

I will go for KO01, Kechara Oasis. The venue was well captured giving audience a feel of the unique modern state of the art restaurant to dine in this fine dining restaurant. In the video, from Rinpoche’s modelling pictures to Rinpoche giving teachings, they show how Rinpoche benefits all sentient beings because instead of becoming a Hollywood star/model, Rinpoche chose to become a monk and remain here in Malaysia to benefit us all.

Reason – A real commercial video that shows an uplifting vegetarian restaurant that can cater in all sorts of event. Despite Buddhist is a vegetarian, also to support in stop animal from suffering in our source of food which been developed in our midstream for decades.
I would go for KO02 (Chinese), judging on marketing standpoint. Rational behinds:
1) Attractive and compelling visual experience.
2) Good selling point on promoting restaurant for major occasions that people normally will not come across. Provide good alternative to choose for vegetarian food.
3) Food’s visual look is appealing.

I vote for KO 01 (Kechara Oasis) because it is very professionally done. It is a good promotional video for the delicious vegetarian food, highlighting the ambiance, service, and quality management of the whole set-up. People will be attracted to the beautiful decor, cleanliness and friendliness of the place. Customers include corporate people, families, office workers and it shows KO catering for all types of celebrations. KO represents Kechara’s stand against animal cruelty.
Must congrats all the teams for an excellent job on all the videos.I personally believe everyone is a winner already by producing the videos. Coming from a production background, I would have to say Kechara Oasis video is on the top on my list, well executed in terms of camerawork, script, visual presentation, narration and all.
My heart do say otherwise as I am drawn to a more simple, direct video that would “call for” me to “buy”. They are exquisitely designed, and keep you close enough to remind you of your vows and commitments to the teachings of the Buddha, and the practice of it. My vote goes to…

It took me nearly a week to let everything to digest first before I vote. Let me first of all say that all of the videos are done very well. A few fell below my radar as it was not particularly engaging. In terms of a well-produced video, it would be Kechara Oasis but the video still has a corporate feel and it could have been broken into 2 parts to make each of them tight.
If I would vote, I would have voted for The Promise Poem but the video is just for viewing only. Why? It tells a story very well through the poem with interesting images to support.
My vote then is for KMP08 – David Lai’s Book Combo. Personally, I have not met David yet but I feel the video brings out the person and his journey. Technically it might not be the best but there is a sincerity in the video. So, KMP08 it is.

Kecharian did a good job and created quality kechara videos , it difficult for me to choice between KMP04 (the peace ) KMP08 ( David combo books ) KMP09 ( Setrap-Chinese) , I am finally voted to KMP04 after review few times, it very creative and well presentation to deliver the message to others. I’ll vote for KO01 (Kechara Oasis).
The cinematography, music, photography and narrator all combine to make it a video that stirs up excitement and interest in the viewer. It makes me feel like dining at KO just to feel what it’s all about. The cinematography and narration have a high level of professionalism that makes the other videos look amateurish.
All the videos are great. Excellent effort and hard work put towards it to reflect the high quality and wonderful products and services Kechara offers.
I wish the voting system was based on different categories – i.e. Best Script, Best Cinematography, Best Creativity and Best Overall video. It’s so hard to choose ONE amongst the many great videos that has been created.
Anyways, my pick would be KMP – 04 (Peace) for the following reasons:
1. The video captured me from the word go. When the video was introduced with the script “I have a degree, a great job, a loving family and a fantastic future”…it captures the audience because the general public would relate to that. When I played the video without watching it, I heard the script, and immediately thought, I have a degree too, so what..which interested me to want to watch the video.
2. The concept of the video is really creative. I like the contrast between what people’s perception of “happiness” and “sadness” is and then the resulting idea of being able to make a choice to make a difference, like picking up the book and reading it to show that despite the situation, our resulting choices are more important (but I guess a few other videos also highlighted that eg. The video for If Not Now, When)
3. As a viewer, it made me want to buy the product
4. I like the script where it tells us what we want, eg. Peace/happiness (which is what most people want), and how to get it (by reading the book which would guide you to it)
Also, guys, I hope that everyone reads the article, captions and watches all the videos BEFORE voting. KMP12, The Promise Poem is NOT UP FOR VOTING so please stop voting for it.

My favourite video is Peace because:

After watching all of the videos, I would like to vote for KMP08- David Lai’s Book Combo. It is simple but able to capture my attention to the books that David is promoting.
Well done to all involved in creating these commercials in such a short period of time! I can see a lot of effort has gone into the thought process and the production however there can only be one winner.
For me it was a close battle between KMP06 – If not now when and KMP07 – The Promise.
But my vote goes to KMP07 – The Promise
Why: Because the script was concise and to the point, though lacking cinematography, the editing was done well with catchy visuals interspersed with bold and also catchy typography, which is perfect for a minute long commercial. One has to keep the audience enraptured and interested till the end message where one has the “call to action” which in this case is to go out and buy a copy. Hence, for me, this particular commercial fulfilled the main criteria of making the product interesting, giving the highlight of the product and finally go out and get one.
Though the rest of the commercials did have the 3 elements but in varying degrees. Quite a few of them though beautifully shot, one looses the product in the end as it “drags on” a little.
All in all a job very well done considering the timing. In most advertising companies, such commercials would take 3-4 months to produce with many rounds of editing and re-editing. Kudos again to the teams involved!

I must begin by congratulating everyone who contributed to the production of every one of these videos. The end result is that each one is a well crafted and professionally presented video from beginning to end.
It is, as a number of people have said, very difficult to choose the best video. I am particularly torn between KMP 07 “THE PROMISE” and KMP 08 – David Lai’s Book Combo. The Promise is exceptional because its script and execution of script are equally perfect.I like the Introduction which dramatically introduces us to the Guru of this age, skillful and donning many coats. It’s good in the beginning, good in the middle and exceptionally good in the end, where it brings us back to the Promise to benefit the world, which Tsem Rinpoche had made to his Guru Kyabje Zong Rinpoche.
Tsem Rinpoche’s Guru Devotion is unexcelled. Nonetheless, what finally made me choose to vote for KMP 08 – David Lai’s Book Combo is the fact that I and many people can identify with his self-doubt and be inspired by his Guru Devotion, which caused him to cast aside his own self-doubt and trust his Guru’s decision and instruction that he can and should write. Many too will be inspired by him to do something they are diffident of doing, knowing that it will benefit many people( as his Guru had seen). He also raises hopes of people of realizing their dreams because, after having completed his first book,he gained his confidence and turned around to become a writer of several books!
This book lifts up the ordinary person’s hopes and make them dare to dream. David is a natural and so spontaneous. That is his charm and magic which he will weave around people who will be compelled to buy and read this book.

My first choice would have been KMP12 (poem so aptly tells of Rinpoche’s choice and promise).
I liked KMP09 (Chinese Setrap) as the video is quite captivating wt awesome Setrap’s statue, Rinpoche’s picture, Pastor Yek Yee explaining the benefit of his practice, tantalizing glimpse of the Tibetan practice of offerings n prayers.
KO01 & KO02 are good as they appeal to wider selection of consumers…no longer Buddhist vegetarianism but more health conscious vegetarianism. The videos shows how KO caters to individuals, families, corporate, happy occasions (ie. weddings, birthdays, etc) and from young children to elderly. The food looks delicious and Jimmy looks so professional, expertly tossing food in the wok.
But my vote goes to KMP07 – where Rinpoche was a strikingly good looking model and a Buddhist monk. My first ever contact was reading about him as a model in The Star newspapers years ago and was intrigue by how he can be in such a glamorous life, yet maintain his vows within. At that time, I had wonder how interesting it would be to listen to his teachings. A passing thought. Guess what! It came true, albeit many years passing by.

I guess the reason why i voted for this video is because i think it brings across to the viewer the fact that even though simply furniture, the designs all have meanings behind them. This was not something I had even thought about before scripting the video….. whoops, i mean watching the video!

I would vote for KMP 04 – Peace, this video stood out to me as it’s edgy and bold with the change of music while the message to transform kicked in and the concept of the plot is nice and creative.

KMP06 – If Not Now, When? Love Edition
I love this video the best reason being it touches my heart. In life there are so many we have been missing due to we have too much concern on this and that. I love this video that brought out the message that if we don’t do it now, then when?We will never know what will happen in the very next second/minute. We don’t want to left any regrets behind because time will never turn back. When you really want to do it perhaps its too late or will never have the chance.
Very often that I asked myself if not now, when? Then you will waste no time, and also I join Kechara full time inspired by this words and the book.
I vote for David Lai’s Book Combo because the video captures the attention of the audience throughout and promotes the author. Viewers get to see a glimpse of who David Lai is and can immediately relate to his insecurities and vulnerabilities. Yet he overcomes them with results to show. Very powerful tool to promote himself as an author and his books.

KMP07 (The Promise) has my vote because it is about Tsem Rinpoche and the life in Dharma Rinpoche has given to everyone he meets and the promise Rinpoche made and kept which is really the reason why there is even a need for all the other videos. I thought KMP07 very aptly captures how versatile Rinpoche is in delivering the Dharma and that itself is a lesson-not to be fixated in a certain perception. It made me want to find out more about this Guru who does not fit the mold.
A very close second (I know only one vote counts) is David Lai’s video, KMP08 and it is very charming, cute and “very David” as so many people have said. But to me the video does not do justice to the David whom I have seen with my eyes, slay the goliath of obscuration and obstacles. It does not do justice to the encyclopaedic mind in Dharma that is David Lai. To me David is a Dharma heavy weight in the making and Dharma needs a young hero. Wish the video represented David’s mind better.

I know I am full of interesting Dharma sharings and perhaps more so than the average joe because of my time spent with Rinpoche and a little certain interest of mine. However, if you put me in a different scenario and I wouldn’t be as knowledgeable and smart.
I loved Li Kim’s performance as well as the narrative. It gave me chills. Although all of the videos were done well, this one was particularly profound. It touched me deeply.

Although we did a more conventional one which is up for voting, we wanted to present to Rinpoche another angle, that would do the book justice! It wasn’t like we could shoot Rinpoche himself, and it wasn’t easy to fill it in with any other characters cos it is a biography of someone larger than life… our Guru hehe. So the Poem which Wendy wrote was really so apt and it captured the book, the bio and Rinpoche’s life journey in a beautifully written poetry and to ensure the script was well carried out in visual, the visual effects had to be creative as well.

I am so surprise within such a short period of time, these 3 teams managed to come out with such good quality of videos. I’m quite torn apart between choosing KMP04 “peace”, KMP06 “if not now when” and KMP08 “David Lai’s book combo”.
The artistic black and white presentation in KMP04 make you think in a deeper level. The weighty message in KMP06 makes one hard to ignore because it reflects the reality of today’s societies’ perceptions.
While the young, vibrant, funky mood of David will captivate the young’s heart.
My vote goes to KMP06 on the point of the message that it carried.
I vote for KP01, the wealth vase. I like all the product videos from the Dharma outlets because:
1) All the videos are very “clean”, simple and give essential information about the products.
2) All the videos have same format, for example the endings are the same, and with all the necessary information for people to contact the outlets as well as the online store.
I like the wealth vase the best because many people don’t know much about the wealth vase, and this video is a good teaser to make people want to find out more 🙂

It truly reflects the essence of the book that it’s promoting, that’s getting us to ACT! Delivering the messages creatively and yet subtly.
I vote for KMP08 – David Lai’s book combo. David is cute and funny. The message encourage people to go for their dream.
Frankly speaking, I really like many of the videos, not all, but many. But since I can only vote for one… My vote will have to go to David Lai (KMP08 – David Lai’s Book Combo).
I really like the personal touch behind the video, it feels as if the author is talking to me and you feel a direct connection with the writer himself, and that makes me feel like reading David’s book right now! Also, it’s a breath of fresh air compared to many other adverts we would see out there. Adverts are no longer infomercials, it’s very important to connect with the audience and customers these days.
I also really like some of KP’s videos. Their script is good, complete and easy to understand. However, I feel that the videos is something that would convince someone to visit KP if they are undecided about getting the product or not, not when someone do not know anything about the product.
The KO infomercial is also very good actually. But I must say compared to the others… it’s nothing special.
The KP video about the Singing Bowl is not good at all.
The sound of the singing bowl at the middle of the video is a bad idea. Instead of listening to the VO and explanation of the singing bowl, people get distracted listening to the sound.

I am really between my love for either KMP07 The Promise or KMP08 David Lai’s to vote for the BEST Video of all and its sooooooooooooo hard to choose.
The Promise is about how Tsem Rinpoche has lived his life of over 25 years to benefit others.
David Lai’s books reveals a close relationship between a student and his teacher and how it benefited him.
I will vote for KMP07 The Promise instead, although I adore David Lai’s video also.

Tsem Rinpoche’s aspirations to be a monk, his childhood days, practising guru devotion in keeping His Promise to Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, Tsem Rinpoche’s dharma work, activities and teachings. Good choice of quotes in the video including kindness and compassion to animals. I like the script, cinematography and subtle sales pitch (not forcing down one’s throat with “buy, buy, buy.” Background music is catchy, attractive, powerful.
Thumbs up to the video team. And congrats to all the other video teams who did their best even though they have no prior video making experiences. I must say, every video is well done. Kudos! And thank you!

I vote for KMP04. This is the video that caught my attention a lot with simple yet powerful message. The make up, the script and Li Kim blended so perfectly in this video. It is something different from others. It touches my heart hence I think it will touch many people’s heart out there who is thirst for peace.
I like other videos too, especially David’s. He’s cute and it shows his effort to make himself a writer and he made it. Thank you everyone for producing so many wonderful videos! I am sure these videos will bring benefits to the people out there and bring them forward to Kechara.

I would like to vote for KMP 08 of David Lai’s book series. I liked the whole concept of the video. It was a fun, personalised and cleverly done snippet. David brought it alive with his participation too. And I liked the message about going for our dreams in the end 🙂 Good luck David and well done to all other participants.
Kechara is filled with talented , creative, genuine and hard working people. This is clearly shown through all these videos. Almost 90% of these video production is in-house including talent, script, editing, video, concept, etc etc. I am in awe at such good work our own people can produce. To all the teams, well done. I watched the videos several times and enjoyed it each time as though it is the first time I am watching it. I know alot of work and thought has been put in to all of them and I am sure all voters are wishing that they can vote more than one video.
I will have to vote David’s video in KMP08. The talent is natural, the editing was very good and the same goes for concept and script. It is catchy and holds viewer’s attention. For younger viewers, it will draw them to get the book to read as it looks interesting and funny at the same time, while the older viewers would want to explore the book because they would think what is this all about with this young funny man who has other secular options yet chose this spiritual path. Hopefully the message would hit home with many who thinks that spirituality is for the aged and retired.
I congratulate everyone who has participated in the production of these videos. It is not so much about who the eventual winner is. Everyone of you is a winner as your video has and will be seen by thousands to give them a better insight of what Kechara has to offer.

We do have wonderful talented people in our organisation, don’t we? Kechara is a unique organization like no other as it attracts people of all ages. Something unique for a spiritual organisation and also much to do with Rinpoche’s appeal that goes across the board. Anyway, thank you for your vote of confidence. I love what you wrote about Kechara’s incredible talent.
I like so many of the videos, like the Setrap one. Even though I don’t understand a single word, I can really see its appeal for the relevant market.
Ultimately, my choice is David’s video. Why? Because it was totally David. It was endearing, creative, different, funny and awkward, all of the things that David is. It explained perfectly his insecurity with writing, his faith in Rinpoche and the reason why he did the book. It’s the same characteristics that can be found in his book so just by viewing the video, readers (viewers?) already get a sense of what David is like.
Well done guys! All of the videos were great but sorry, I liked the whole “grab book from all directions” scene just too much!
Thank you Pastor Jean Ai. That was very perceptive of you. I started writing the script with that in mind. Actually, it was your sister, Jean Mei who suggested that the advert should be about me, which I protested initially as I really didn’t want to go on screen. My initial idea was to have another person on screen to read my book and be inspired. Jean Mei didn’t like that idea too much as it was kinda passe. So I switched to this and came across a funny Youtube video about being a writer. Some of the visuals cues were inspired by this video. Anyway, it was a fun experience and glad it came out not too bad although I really cringed when I first saw it. I hated it on second view and then I had to watch myself a few times because I finally decided that I was funny. I know… Narcism kicking in a bit.
Hola! Can i emanate myself into 4 Karens and vote? hehehe..ok i know i’m retarded. Well, before i vote, I must congratulate for the great work you guys have produced in such short timeline. From knowing nothing about script writing, directing, editing and on top of that you fund raised for this project, you guys did it. I guess the spirit of team work has brought you fulfilling results. Keep up the good work!
I would go for KMP08 – David Lai’s book combo. There are many books sold on the inspirational shelves at bookstores, however, David, the author himself is genuinely inspiring simply because of his guru devotion. The trust in his Guru that has made him succeed. What he wrote in his books are convincing.
I vote for video KMP06 – If Not Now, When? Love Edition. Simply because the video is creative and gets to the heart of the viewer of getting out of their fear and do something bigger than self. And it does make me want to go and get the book as it makes me curious of what the quotes are.
Geeezzz I really WISH I HAD MORE THAN ONE VOTE!!! Cos I am really proud of all the videos produced here. But I must admit I am terribly proud of my team who had no clue of production but we bend together to produce 11 crazy videos in a month. I remembered Miss Han who is an expert in this field laughing at me saying “Hello people produce 1 video in one month and you wanna do 11?” Hahaha well Miss Han I guess we did it!
I love so many of the videos we produced… Peace, 108 Apples, If Not Now When and David’s are my favourites… but if I had to choose one… I would CHOOSE DAVID’s – KMP08 – David Lai’s Book Combo.
Why because the script was genuine, sincere, we were not trying hard to blow David out of proportion but used his REAL FUNNY SIDE and TRUE STORY of a boy who didn’t think much of himself but he did it, he became an author because HIS GURU said so and even if he doubted himself, he trusted his GURU and literally just plunge in to writing! Now we all know David and how he has a fountain of Dharma knowledge, that’s cos he is literally like a sponge absorbing all the Dharma tales and lessons he could from Rinpoche and he amazingly is one of the few people I know, who has a great memory in remembering all these stories or teachings Rinpoche shared with him during many countless wee nights and mornings! He is a fabulous Dharma brother and I am glad we captured the essence of David the author you’d least expect writing so many Dharma books! His journey can inspire so many and give others just like him “HOPE”.
So yeah this is why I like DAVID’s video. Oh it was also the hardest and most tedious video we did amongst all 11. Yes many TAKES and luckily no pouting!!!! Bravo David!
Yes i agreed with you Joy. You guys worked so hard for these 11 videos and gosh in just 1 month all videos are complete, how you guys did that? Incredible. All the videos are of high quality and most importantly, creatively done. Congrats!
Haha yes Karen… thanks for being our talent :)We sure did have fun along with the hard work. At the end of every shoot we were so beat, Jean Mei was like telling she never expected shooting a video can be this tiring hehe. That’s right and that’s true and to shoot and create 11 different videos was quite ambitious. It’s not like just cut and paste or same concept, each had it’s own script so each was a different set. Yeah call us crazy haha but I am very proud we did it cos no agency would have done it either. So bravo to Kecharians… it shows nothing is impossible if we put our mind to it and all thanks to our Lama for believing in us and pushing us beyond our own expectations.
That is the key… our Lama. I guess if Rinpoche says we can, we can 😉

I vote for KMP04 – The Peace book. It is catchy visually and the book title addresses the social search for inner peace. The visual illustration communicates the message of the video clearly with the use of colors and facial expression.
Very creative and unexpected for a book promotion.
I am impressed with the high level of creativity, vivid presentation of details & info. The ones that most captured my attention are : KP06 – it implied a final remedy towards battling the unseen, KMP02 – its relevant & cross to heart for many city drillers, KMP07 – there is a genuine mask of mystery surrounding the biography of Rinpoche, & last but not least KMP09 – pastor’s conviction in the belief in Setrap.

Sorry Sharon / Joy, I was away and just came back hence the delay in responding. Indeed it is so tough to choose the best ones, I have so many person favorites. However, if we can aiming to create awareness for Rinpoche’s teaching, I would prefer KMP07 as it has a powerful message & spoke person that triggers emotions in commoners as well as a call to action – servicing the people.

My vote is for KMP04 because it is very creative in its concept, script and execution. Li Kim delivers the message well and i think that it would make someone curious about the Peace book!

Thanks Sharon for the mention and nice voice over for some of the videos. I loved the Promise poem video. Wendy is really a talented poet and you have a really pleasant voice. I think mine had the worse voice over because well, they had no choice because it was about me. When Joy recorded my voice, they had to do so many takes because I was quite bad.
