Strange creatures living in Vietnam?
GREEN SCHEME… Easigrass’s John Devlin with his grass- covered car
For untold millennia the area has been inhabited by indigenous peoples such as the Ba Na, the Ro Mam, the Xo Dang, the Brau, the Gia Rai, and Gie Trieng.
But it is not only these ancient tribes-people who inhabit Kon Tum. The area also plays host to a bizarre group of creatures called the Nguoi Rung, or “Forest Dwellers”.
On the August, 23 and 24, 1947, a number of Sedang, Jarrai and Banhar people reported sighting some of the Nguoi Rung near their villages.
Investigations into the sightings proved inconclusive, but from that point forward, the mysterious Forest Dwellers appeared regularly – if not frequently – to farmers, soldiers and fishermen alike.
In 1982, Professor Tran Hong Viet, who later lectured at the Pedagogic University of Hanoi, stumbled across a footprint of a Nguoi Rung and made a plaster cast of it.
The print measured 16 centimetres by 28 centimetres. The length wasn’t extraordinary, but it was much wider than a normal human footprint.
The toes, too, were longer than human toes.
Trang Hong Viet found the print on the slopes of Chu Mo Ray Mountain – a mountain which, not coincidentally, lies in the heart of Kom Tum Province, where the creature had appeared during the 1940s.
But who are the Nguoi Rung? A tribe of humans that had managed to isolate themselves from the rest of humanity for ages, or perhaps an undiscovered species of hominid like the Yeti or Bigfoot?
It’s hard to run with the idea that they’re human beings.
The height of the Nguoi Rung varies widely.
Some are said to be very small – almost dwarf-like – whilst others may reach a height of 7ft or more.
More tellingly, the creatures are always said to be covered in a thick coat of brown or black hair and walk bipedally like humans.
They are also said to be able to make fire and to have a real liking for mussels and snails.
It seems that the Nguoi Rung are not badly disposed to humans.
In some remote villages of the province they have been known to stroll up to campfires and sit down beside the villagers.
One eyewitness said: “They never speak, although they sometimes make strange noises, but they seem to know what we are talking about.
“When they arrive and when they depart they always nod two or three times. They are polite, but I would not argue with them as they are also very, very strong”.
Some researchers think that there are actually two undiscovered tribes in the Vietnamese jungles.
The name Nguoi Rung is actually related to the Indonesian epithet Orang Utang, and has been translated as “large monkey”.
This creature, they believe, may be a large, undiscovered species of ape or hominid.
Alongside the Nguoi Rung there allegedly exists a second race – much smaller and far more human-like.
Locals show great respect to these creatures, who are said to be able to run at great speed and climb trees with extraordinary agility.
In the Sabah Forest, Malaysia, a zoologist once found a “human-like but definitely non-human” footprint of a creature locals call the Batutut.
It is a curious creature, and will often pinch personal belongings.
They have a particular fascination for weapons and have been known to steal rifles, although it is doubtful they know how to use them.
The footprint made him feel uneasy, and he has never returned to the area.
As the number of unexplored wildernesses decreases, it is becoming increasingly harder for undiscovered creatures like the Nguoi Rung to remain hidden.
One day soon we may be confronted an echo of our ancient past.
What will we do then, I wonder?

Curious about the legendary Yeti? Not sure what to believe? Here is an article that explores a range of sources, from folktales to newspaper reports, detailing sightings and encounters with the elusive creature, who has been a part of the very fabric of various Himalayan communities for thousands of years. Read about religious beliefs, myths, fables and stories by scholars and travellers alike, and realise that there is more to the Yeti than you previously thought.

This is a real awesome documentary on bigfoot. One of the best – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp5eV9nIEjk&feature=youtu.be
In 1967, Bob Gimlin and Roger Patterson stumbled across an incredible sight whilst out in Bluff Creek, in the California wilderness. At a creek which had been freshly washed-out by recent floods, they witnessed a female Bigfoot swiftly traverse the rugged landscape. Since their filmed encounter with the Bigfoot, who has since been nicknamed Patty, many have disputed the authenticity of their recording but no one has been able to successfully prove that it is a fake.
Credits for this video goes to entirely to windvale for the original footage. ?
I do enjoyed reading anything paranormal mystery related article. The discovery of strange hairy creatures living in Vietnam seem to be of interest to many called the Nguoi Rung . The sighting of these indigenous people has been reported for years near their remote villages. It seem that some of these people already inhabited the area before the ancestors of the Vietnam arrived from China ,thousand years ago. Hopefully with these discovery ,researcher will do more research on these people and sharing with the rest of the world like the discovery of Bigfoot or yeti.
Thank you for sharing.
Interesting findings about mysterious creatures that are a cross between ape and human in Vietnam. Hopefully this discovery can help researcher learn more and perhaps find a link to the elusive creatures known as Yeti, Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Thank you for this sharing.
What I find fascinating about a professor insisting on the existence of these creatures, is that it takes a certain type of person to apply themselves to academia to a level where they are awarded a professorship. A person who is unable to apply the power of reasoning, or a person who doesn’t have some form of structured thinking will not become a professor; on your way to a professorship, you would’ve defended your thesis and works successfully at least once in front of a panel of experts.
In this case, this Professor Tran Hong Viet stumbled across a footprint that he concluded to be of Nguoi Rung origin. Why would a professor stake his reputation, and years of work and pushing for funding and academic validation on something that’s mythical? That’s something for people to think about if they are sceptical.
Thank you Rinpoche.
The ending of the article made sense…it is either we meet them sometime soon with the dwindling of unexplored wilderness, or we actually destroy their habitat and indirectly causing them harm or killing them in the process.
It is fascinating to note that so close to home, in Malaysia Sabah and Vietnam, there are actually sightings of similar being to Big Foot and dwarf like beings.. maybe elves?
Thank you.
Thank you Rinpoche for the sharing. The Nguoi Rung seems friendly and they can sit down beside the villagers. They are able to run at great speed, just like other big foots. I feel that they are very kind as well.
Dear Rinpoche
Thanks for sharing this interesting article. I think the bigfoot might have migrate to these areas. I would like to offer to Rinpoche an interesting article on 10 Bigfoot-Type Cryptids You May Not Know About. Source: http://listverse.com/2014/04/04/10-bigfoot-type-cryptids-you-may-not-know-about/ In the article there are diffent type of species of Bigfoot and the sighted incident.
Thank you

Thank you for the sharing Rinpoche. After so much destruction that happened in the past during the Vietnam war.It is great to know that some of the rare Forest Dwellers manage to survive the ordeal. We certainly hope they could repopulate them self.
Knowing their existence is enough. We hope the scientist would not go in search of them and put a bounty for their capture. This would only davistate their existence. The creature picture shows a kind face and not hostile like a gorilla.
When the situation allowed it .May we be able to meet up with them on a more friendly level.
