This is a Canadian film not released in the US….I watched this recently on dvd not knowing what to expect. I thought it would be corny, silly and campy in a annoying way. BUT IT WAS A NICE SURPRISE. THE MOVIE IS GREAT!!!

The characters were wonderful with a stellar cast of Iggy Pop, Malcom McDowell, Dimitri (lead singer of Burning Brides), Alice Cooper, Moby, Rob Stefaniuk, Jessica Pareetc all in one movie. They really casted the actors perfectly for this movie. It is such a camp, entertaining, touching, funny and fast movie. There are like six songs on this movie that is really good and I had Justin download for me and sounds good…you have to watch this movie…it is very very very entertaining with predictable scenes that ARE NOT TIRESOME. They even reproduced some famous scenes like the Beatles walking across Abbey Road etc…..

Rob Stefaniuk writes and sings really good music in this movie…he is very talented. I have never heard of him before this movie and there are clips on youtube.

I loved Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper in this…they give aging rockers a new lease that you are never too old to be entertaining and fabulous. I loved them in this movie. Jessica Pare is really funny with her “It’s not what it looks like’ when she gets caught sucking blood… heheheheh…very funny…

Enjoy!!!

Tsem Rinpoche

P.S. Youtube search Moby, Alice Cooper, Iggy, etc… they are major music forces…

Jessica Pare sings this really evocative and memorable song… you have to listen to it… from the movie soundtrack.

The Fool – The Winners (Jessica Pare)

I was a fool and I believed
There was nothing left for me
Like every fool, I couldn’t see
The wondrous beauty for the beast
I was a fool

I was a fool and I believed
There was no one there for me
I guess that it’s true, there cannot be
One as blind as one will not see
I was a fool

I was a fool and I believed
The reason stars come out at night
The reason birds fly in the sky
Is the reason you and the reason I can dream
I dream

One day a fool came up to me
And said be careful when you dream
Life can be cruel, it’s yours to keep
Treat it gently in your sleep
I was a fool

I was a fool and I believed
The reason stars come out at night
The reason birds fly in the sky
Is the reason you and the reason I can dream
Yeah, the reason stars come out at night
The reason birds fly in the sky
Is the reason you and the reason I can dream
Can dream
I dream

Suck is a 2009 rock-and-roll vampire black comedy horror film. Sound interesting. All about a band member Jennifer is turned into a vampire, the band quickly gains popularity. Many people were then attracted to her newfound beauty. While on tour, the band members are each turned into vampires, one by one. As their infamy grows, the vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing learns that Jennifer is a vampire and vows to hunt her down. Well the story tells us…. Turning human to vampire and back to human , lastly back to vampire again. I have not watch this video but have read it though. I love listening to the songs….
Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this horror film.

I have watched this movie before, and yes, it is good. I also too liked the music in the movie. And i think they did a good job picking the right actors for the movie. Thank you for sharing Rinpoche.

  3. edward ooi on Mar 19, 2013 at 7:36 pm

Dear Rinpoche, the song was really strange because of the funny lyrics. The movie was pretty funny, one of member became a cannibal because the girl who is also from the band is a vampire and I forgotten how she turned him into a cannibal but I remembered that she was the one who changed him.

  4. David Lai on Feb 28, 2013 at 2:05 pm

Interesting movie and I didn’t get the chance to watch this yet but I am sure it would be a good one. Rinpoche has a particularly good taste for the movies and has developed a taste for supernatural, preferably horror-related type of movies and the occasional good sci-fi movie as well. I remember Rinpoche detests romantic comedies, dramas etc unless it is a good period movie. Rinpoche has over time have treated his students to many movie treats and not surprising that many of them were horror flicks. Hehe!

  5. Sean Wang on Jan 19, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Dear Rinpoche, thank you for sharing this very interesting movie with us. An understanding I have about the movie is that the movie depicts how temptation to win can lead to dire consequences. You will end up regretting after having all that desire to become the best at something that is not substantial. Also, I learned how love can be the leading cause for a lot of pain as Eddy Van Helsing *spoilers* loses his wife and becomes a Vampire Slayer and have since had a fear of the dark. The fear of the dark is also signifying the fear of the unknown as vampires are actually also the unknown to him.

  6. Steve Tobias on Aug 15, 2011 at 6:29 pm

I watched this last week. Not really into vampires, but very good music and it was all glam rock style like Rocky Horror. Very cool style. Maybe one of the best music styles. I think this film and Velvet Goldmine IMO replicated the style well. Thank you for recommending otherwise I would not have seen it. I hope to reach out to beings with art like Rinpoche does.

Thank you Rinpoche! I will get a copy and watch it with Adrian as soon as I can. We totally LOVE vampire movies…

    Dear Lama

Thank you for sharing this song with me. I did not know what to say at first because the lyric of the song reflects my deepest thought. It goes through the same cycle everytime. I used to be a big dreamer. Dream became hopes and wants, than some attachments sparked causing many sufferings and episodes of depression. For many years I was torn with the decisions between to dream and risk dissapointment or not to dream and live a very dull monotonous life. I went from one extreme to the other extreme and found the middle path that keep my mind at peace.

I still love to dream, but at least I learn to fight for what I want and learn not to be attached to the results :-).

    Much love

    Valentina

    Dear Rinpoche,

Thank you so much for the DVD!! I picked it up from Shin a week ago as she picked up my copy from Monlam along with hers.

I have watched it and it is a really funny and light hearted take on vampires. There’s a very heavy reference to the Anne Rice universe of vampires (who also features vampires and a rock band, Queen of the Dammed) but it’s on a lighter note. My favorite gag is when the vampires get defensive when people question their weird habits (nobody likes a judge!) and its so thinly veiled that its so obvious.

which i find is a reminder for all of us that there’s no use making excuses and covering as people do know…

but that aside the film was quite funny and light. I love how the vampires are portrayed as arrogant and powerful beings…and how the girl who turned into a vampire said she’s still the same person inside even though she drinks blood now (and later revert back to being human when that vampire in red is killed) it strikes a very familiar and comforting note there…

the ending was funny tho. How the girl would go back to being a vampire again..

once again thank you Rinpoche 🙂

  17. Sean Wang on Dec 30, 2010 at 11:21 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,
Thank you for the movie. I thought it was awesome. It is really an incomparable vampire movie. This movie makes me want to throw Twilight into the dumpster. The movie actually seems like a straight version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. My favourite part is when the girl is told to go suck on a cow if she is hungry. Once again, thank you Rinpoche for sharing this great movie with me!
    Love,
    Sean

  19. Melissa on Dec 20, 2010 at 3:05 pm

    Dear Rinpoche,

Haha, my first impression of this movie when I saw the cover, was that it was gonna be some rockin’ 80’s vampire movie.AND IT WAS! Well just not about the 80’s part but other than that it was rockin’.I thought that the murdering with all that blood was totally narly but i would say that the best part of the movie were the songs (: Thank You so much for the movie Rinpoche and for always thinking about us! and you were right,it was totally enjoyable. 😀

with much love and folded hands,
    Melissa

Dearest Tsem Rinpoche, you should hear 1 song off You-Tube check out 1 song from “Rollin’s band” called “Shine”. I know you will like this song because it’s totally positive lyrics. I know you’ll like it I promise 🙂

    Eminence, Dharma Prince,

Yes, I have seen this film, and it is okay. As you said, somewhat predictable, but in a refreshing way. Some of the tongue-in-cheek humour is really great.

BTW What ever happened to Baby Jane is one of my favourites, also. This year I sold a lot of my DVD’s, as most of my movies are now on hard drive, but I couldn’t part with that one.

    Love,

    –Tom

Thankyou Rinpoche for the DVD, I’ll get it off Monlam and watched it. Love rock movies coz the soundtrack is always good. and good to see Iggy Pop though… but I do wish Bowie will make a movie.

That day I read the email about Bowie, and I thought How COOL my guru is, loving all these underground stuff.. hehe.

    Thanks again Rinpoche.

I LURVE IT! On the surface it was a great mix of humour, wit, “scary bits” and art. The animated parts where it shows their car travelling about was absolutely brilliant. Very MTVish and done well. I have had some experience with animation while in advertising and those few scenes were not easy at all!!!

I will not reveal too much hear as I would not like to spoil it for anyone watching but for me…. it was absolutely entertaining, something I would watch over and over again and just repeat the dialogue… hehehe. Well written, well directed and very camp. Camp being a word I always thought as being merely effeminate but Rinpoche kindly corrected my misconception. It is more, much more than my little perception (what else is new… hehehe). So off I went to look for the definition and here is what I found:

Camp is an aesthetic sensibility wherein something is appealling because of its bad taste and ironic value. The concept is closely related to kitsch, and things with camp appeal are described as being “campy” or “cheesy”. When the usage appeared, in 1909, it denoted: ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical, and effeminate behaviour, and, by the middle of the 1970s, the definition comprised: banality, artifice, mediocrity, and ostentation so extreme as to have perversely sophisticated appeal.[1] American writer Susan Sontag’s essay Notes on “Camp” (1964) emphasised its key elements as: artifice, frivolity, naïve middle-class pretentiousness, and ‘shocking’ excess. Camp as an aesthetic has been popular from the 1960s to the present.

Camp films were popularised by filmmakers George and Mike Kuchar, Andy Warhol, and John Waters, including the latter’s Pink Flamingos, Hairspray and Polyester. Celebrities that are associated with camp personas include drag queens and performers such as Dame Edna, Divine (Glen Milstead), RuPaul, and Liberace. Camp was a part of the anti-academic defense of popular culture in the 1960s and gained popularity in the 1980s with the widespread adoption of postmodern views on art and culture.

Enjoy everyone…. and much love… Andrew

Venerable Ajahn Chah was a Thai Buddhist monk, an influential teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition. Been a man of great wisdom was respected and loved in his own country Thailand. He was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West and a revered monk whose life and teachings continue to this day. He was undoubtedly one of the most revered Buddhist teachers in the modern era. His teachings were rooted in direct experience and presented in simple language. He was an exemplary teacher who inspired deep confidence and enthusiasm amongst his followers who came from around the world. Ajahn Chah remained bedridden until his death at the age of 73. Interesting biography of a great teacher.

DUKKAR (SITATAPATRA) or White Parasol is known for her powers to protect against sorcery, spirit harm, evil spells, malicious intents and so forth. She is white in colour because the principal means by which she accomplishes protection is the enlightened energy of pacification. She is a form of Tara and is well recognized throughout Tibet, India ,Nepal and the Himalayan region. Whoever practices her mantra will gain protection against supernatural danger and witchcraft.
All thanks to the kindness of the monks from Gaden Monastery Kecharians from Puja team have conducted a Dukkar Puja and learned the various traditional pujas as well.

The possibility of extraterrestrial life has always fascinated humans and we’ve been searching for alien life for some time now.No extraterrestrial life has yet been conclusively detected. We always wondered if there is life beyond Earth in space. With all of the countless billions of stars and possible planets and moons in space, we do think that under the right conditions, life can exist elsewhere in space. However, there is no evidence for this. Extraterrestrial life has never been discovered, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I do believe of their existence. Only a small fraction of our galaxy has been studied and the question of whether aliens exist is something scientists have been trying to understand, explore and figure out for a long time. Despite decades of peering at and listening to planets around other stars, scientist still don’t have a concrete answer to the question of whether we are alone in the universe. Scientists are have been using new methods to reveal that we’re not alone in the universe and that alien life must be out there.
Reading this interesting blog will definitely opened our eyes as one day we could possible see them , rather than just listening their voice . Since in a few occasion they the aliens have made communication contact with human.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The Karmapa heads the 900 years old Karma Kagyu sect, popularly called the Black Hat sect of the Tibetan Buddhism. The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, is the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, a Buddhist school in Tibet. The Karma Kagyu lineage is the most influential of the Tibetan Buddhist lineages outside Tibet studied and practiced all around the world. The teachings of the Kagyu lineage have been passed down for nearly a thousand years within Tibet. As one of Tibetan Buddhism’s four main lineages, the Kagyu School is especially known for its profound meditative practices, its tradition of strict retreat, and the countless awakened individuals it has produced. The teachings of the Kagyu lineage stretch back to ancient India, having a long history behind it.
H E Lodreu Rabsel Rinpoche, a Karma Kagyu Lama, recently sent an open letter to HH Dalai Lama on behalf of the thousands or millions of Kagyu practitioners. This letter mentioned various points of aggressive pressure and assaults, threatening, and discrimination attributed to supporters of H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama. Finally one courage Lama speaking up how practitioners have been suffering all these while. He is the only high-ranking Tibetan Lama formally recognised both by Dalai Lama and the Chinese.
Well it seem that other Tibetan religious groups also experiencing religious discrimination ,having many similarities to the Gelup lineage. Lodreu Rabsel Rinpoche has dedicated his life to the preservation of the Karma Kagyu lineage. Lodreu Rabsel Rinpoche highlighted the lack of religious freedom among the Tibetan people due to the persistent interference of their Tibetan leadership. Due to the Tibetan leadership the Karma Kagyu split so as in the Gelup lineage sufferings to the practitioners. In time to come hopefully it will resolve the disputes for the sake of Dharma.
Thank you Rinpoche for this interesting sharing.

Everyone of us have a dream house. Some might go for bigger house while some might choose a simple house far away from city lives and so forth. Living in a green mountainous place doing practices, mantras, prostrations, offerings and reading the holy dharma was a dream of our Guru Tsem Rinpoche . That’s a great idea , what a beautiful place to live without much disturbance of traffics and activities . Kechara Forest Retreat is one special place one might go for. Having a house, quiet and green environment place is definitely everyone wish. One touch of nature makes the whole world kin. Green and clean, that’s everyone dream.

We have to understand that we own nothing. Everything that surrounds us is temporary. Life is like a flowing river in which nothing stays not even our relationships, fame, riches, poverty, happiness, sorrow, disease, objects, people, troubles, problems, etc. We have to accept the true facts all things will change with time, nothing stays permanent. Let us make our future now, and let us make our time in this world meaningful doing what we have to do. Learning, practicing Dharma is a good choice to make before its too late. Do something useful for others in our life .We are all going to die, it’s just a matter of when no one knows. We can’t take along anything we have as we come into this world with nothing, we goes with nothing too.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing as a reminder for us all of the precious nature of life.

But making Kechara Forest Retreat a spiritual sanctuary for all is amazing as mother Nature brings a sense of calmness and brings a greater sense of appreciation for life. All thanks to our Guru Tsem Rinpoche and many faithful students goes all the way up to where its today. Pastor Chia, Ms Julia Tan and Ms Li Kheng were the few who have done a fantastic job increasing yields and providing more healthy food.

Thank you Li Kheng for highlighting the problems, sufferings under the unethical Dorje Shugden ban.
Dorje Shugden is one of the important protector deities worshipped by many throughout the Tibetan Buddhism . And even many high Lamas since the time of the 5th Dalai Lama and in monasteries have had propitiated Dorje Shugden. Tibetan leadership has been exploiting their people all these years with the Dorje Shugden ban. Many families are torn apart by this ban instituted by the Tibetan Leadership.
Living in Malaysia a multi-country is a privilege , we allowed to pray what we want , having religious freedom. But not for those Tibetans living in India, Nepal and so forth who propitiate Dorje Shugden. Current days many news has created increased exposure and awareness of the plight of Dorje Shugden practitioners in the world. And it is slowly going down to history , as many Tibetans are standing up and speaking up on the unfairness and discrimination to be heard.
Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding…..quoted.

We should respect all religions and just believe in peace, kindness and harmony. Everyone has the right to choose and practise a religion. We should never judge, mistreat or hurt others just because they practice a different religion than ours. The first way we can begin to respect different forms of spirituality is to learn about them. Promoting tolerance and understanding is an important part of our life. Respecting people of other faiths allows us to foster an environment of tolerance and understanding. It helps us recognize that there are diverse perspectives and beliefs in the world. Everyone has the right to choose and practise a religion. The deep frustration felt by the Tibetan people who lack religious freedom to practice how and what they want, is beginning to surface with more and more people speaking up against the behaviour of the Tibetan leadership. Dorje Shugden practitioners face restrictions on freedom of belief, speech, assembly, and cultural identity. Every aspect of Tibetan life is under siege but until recently they could speak out about what they are facing, the more is spoken out, the more others will be aware of the issue. Reading what H E Tsem Rinpoche had said why he had to keep silent about his Protector practice of Shugden until now. Its all about guru devotion and faith in his guru. Tsem Rinpoche had explained clearly the reasons behind it. Well hopefully more and more people understand after reading this blog. Having peaceful dialogue through communication and solve the controversy issue for the sake in the preservation of the Dharma, has to be achieved.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

Tibetan sky burial is a mysterious funeral practice that fascinates and sometimes intimidates people from a different cultural background. Tibetans see it as a last gift to the universe — a way to show the insignificance and the impermanence of our earthly lives. In reality sky burial, holds much greater significance. The practice demonstrates fundamental values and beliefs of Tibetan Buddhism such as reincarnation, impermanence, compassion, and non-attachment. Although it might seem brutal for some at first, yet this tradition demonstrates deep love and compassion towards all living beings and genuine concern about the earth. It’s the last act of merits and they consider them a spiritual practice that’s all about giving back to the world.
Sky burials is a funeral practice are where human corpse is placed on a mountaintop to decompose to be eaten by scavenging animals such as carrion birds.
Looking at those pictures though scary yet will remind us to train our mind and every single time in life is important spent it wisely. Nothing stays forever, its better to accept it and prepare our next life as what Tsem Rinpoche had advised us to meditate on death.
Thank you Rinpoche for this sharing.

The historic first Kalachakra initiation by the young Panchen Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu held publicly in Tibet,China. Awesome over hundred thousand attended the self-initiation of the Kalachakra deity and teachings. Among them thousand monks and nuns and hundred incarnated lamas and teachers in attendance were HE the 20th Denma Gonsa Rinpoche, HE Nyitrul Rinpoche, Venerable Lama Jampa Ngodrub Rinpoche and many other High Lamas. On the first day auspicious sign appeared with shower of rain. With over thousands of people attended this initiation , it proven that the influence of the young Panchen Lama is growing and will continue to grow even more and stronger. This also proves that he is indeed the unmistaken incarnation. This definitely have a positive impact on the acceptance of Dorje Shugden’s practice. Historically, one of the main Protectors of the Panchen Lamas is Dorje Shugden and he is also the Protector of Tashi Lhunpo, the monastic seat of the Panchen Lamas.
Thank you Rinpoche and Pastor David for this great sharing.

More than 350 years, highly attained Lamas have relied on the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden to clear obstacles and create conducive conditions for their spiritual path. Buddhist masters from the major schools of Tibetan Buddhism as such Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya and Gelug . Over a period of time, the practice entered into Mongolian culture, since than Mongolia had adopted Tibetan Buddhism many hundreds of years ago. Mongolia has a long history and connection with Dorje Shugden. Even the State Oracle of Mongolia, Choijin Lama Luvsankhaidav, regarded highly of Dorje Shugden and had a special thangka commissioned for worship. Lama Luvsankhaidav even took trance of Dorje Shugden painted the importance the Mongolian people once placed on the protector.

The historic Choijin Lama Temple located in the center of Ulaanbaatar Mongolia. The Choijin Lama Temple is an architectural masterpiece of the 19th and 20th centuries at the order of the spiritual leader of Mongolian Buddhism the eighth Javzandamba Khutagt. The complex was dedicated to his younger brother, the sitting Choijin Lama, who had served as the official state oracle of Mongolia until his death. The historic temple of the Choijin Lama is an important example of Chinese-style religious architecture where the Choijin Lama would go into a trance. This temple been one of Mongolian Buddhism’s surviving links with the past with unique collection of copper and brass sculptures, scroll paintings, diverse artworks, masks engravings, and instruments used for religious ceremonies. This temple is considered one of the most beautiful temple in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia and is now a museum preserving the elaborately decorated interiors and containing a rich collection of other Mongolian Buddhist sculpture and painting.
Thank you Rinpoche and Choong for this interesting write up

The Unknown

The Known and unknown are both feared,
Known is being comfortable and stagnant,
The unknown may be growth and opportunities,
One shall never know if one fears the unknown more than the known.
Who says the unknown would be worse than the known?
But then again, the unknown is sometimes worse than the known. In the end nothing is known unless we endeavour,
So go pursue all the way with the unknown,
because all unknown with familiarity becomes the known.
~Tsem Rinpoche

What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit.
Sick animals are more profitable... farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying... We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. ~ Jonathan Safran Foer
