Jill hits 100,000!
Dear friends,
Earlier yesterday, I received a pleasant surprise from one of my students, Jill Yam. She presented me with a basket filled with healthy organic food. it also came along with a sincere hand written card to inform me she has completed 100,000 water bowl offering. I was so amazed at her sincere practice and offering. Such a wonderful surprise!!
She told me that throughout her water offering retreat, Pastor Yek Yee was instrumental in guiding her through it… I’m glad to hear this. I conceptualized the idea of having Pastors so that they can help others in their Dharma practice… this is the very reason why Pastor Yek Yee, Pastor Susan, Pastor Lanse, Pastor Han Nee, Pastor Chia and Anila became Pastors.
I love getting letters that shares with me my student’s spiritual growth… it tells me that all the years of being in Malaysia has bore some results, and that there are people here who wish to practice the Dharma sincerely. Thank you Jill for this wonderful offering of 100,000 water bowl offerings dedicated to the growth of Kechara Forest Retreat. I am deeply touched by your sincerity towards the Dharma. I want to share this to inspire many others to engage in practice also.
Tsem Rinpoche
The card reads:
Dear Rinpoche,
I have completed my water offering retreat and I wish to offer it to Rinpoche along with these offerings. (Attached is my tabulated counts by months) Under the guidance of Pastor Yek Yee, I have completed 110,010 bowls of water offerings.
I took on this retreat with the intent of offering it for Rinpoche’s long life and for Kechara Forest Retreat to manifest swiftly. Throughout the retreat, I took my vegetarian vows too. The retreat has been a humbling experience. It has been calm and peaceful.
Although there has been times where I felt tedious and tiring, both physically and mentally, I focused and reflected on my motivation and regained my strength to carry on when I filled my last bowl and completed the retreat. I was spiritually filled with joy.
Having completed this retreat, I have a better understanding of patience and perseverance. i also have to thank Pastor Yek Yee and my family for their encouragement throughout.
May whatever merits that I may have accumulated throughout this retreat, I offer them all to Rinpoche.
Thank you.
From,
Jill Yam

Jill is a very dedicated and hard working volunteer in Puja House, her continuity and integrity are the aspects that I have to learn from her. She is an inspiring example to look up to. Thank you Jill for all the hard work and also Rinpoche for sharing her succeed in completing the retreat.
I find this very cool. I myself would think that i am not able to do things like this, i don’t think i would be consistant in doing it. So i am very imrpressed with Jill. I hope i will learn in the future to be more like Jill here, and to keep on going and to never stop doing.
Thanks Rinpoche for the sharing. Rejoice to Jill too for completing the 100000 bowls of water offering.
Jill is a devoted volunteer who also always tirelessly work at Kechara Puja House. From Torma making, leading the puja and even out call puja. She is really an inspiring senior who really invest her time in dharma. And her daughter, Wan San is frequently volunteering at Kechara too.
Really happy to have Jill to help us to understand more about puja.
Thanks
Congratulations on your achievement, Jill, may you become an inspiration for many to follow. I really rejoice. Jill does so much for others in Kechara and taking care of her children, yet she takes the initiative to complete an extensive water offering retreat. I am very happy for her.
WOW!!! Jill is really devoted to Rinpoche. I always see her volunteering in Kechara House. Her offering to Rinpoche is so sincere and she is so systematic in her counts. All are recorded so nicely. She did not lag in anyway, in any day. This is pure determination. Jill, you are an inspiration. Your whole family helps out in Kechara and now you daughter is working in KIM. Really a shiny example of a Dharma family.
Congratulation to Jill has completed 100,000 bowls of water offering and continue keep up your spiritual practice. I love to engage the retreat like this again and again.I remember my first watering retreat is done at Gaden Monastery at rinpoche ladrang. Everyday few of us start doing White Tara prayer and continue with water offering. How nice. I miss that a lot.
Congratulations Jill on completing your water offering retreat! As always, its truly inspiring to read about such happy updates! And to know that your motivation was for Rinpoche makes it much more interesting! Although you are a mum and volunteer, you persevered and made it! May your spiritual hourney continue to grow!
Wow this blog post is indeed very exciting to read! Thank you Jill for being a good example to all of us! Jill not only did 100,000 water offering but she was also very dedicated by writing down the counts day by day and having all filed up. Amazing dedication.
No excuses to all of us to be busy really!
That is really something!!!
Dear Jill,
Congratulation on the completion of 100k water offering, which is one of the preliminary practice advised high lamas, Lama Tsongkhapa himself also completed have to completed his prilimirary practices. The significance of offering seven/eight water bowls is to create the cause to achieve the seven limbs, or aspects, or qualities of the Vajradhara state — enlightenment, hence it’s important for us to do this daily.
I would like to share some links about teaching regarding other preliminary practices that we can get involve to prepare ourself for higher tantric initiaiton or practices.

Jill Yam volunteers on a regular basis in Kechara House work and Puja House pujas, as well as remained committed in her 100,000 water offerings retreat and taking care of her family needs. She is always pleasant, kind, generous, helpful and hard working. She always made sure she does her work well and not trouble others.
She is an inspiration and I admire her for her tenacious appetite for this achievement. Jill and her family have always been an admiration for me. Congratulations!
Congratulation Jill!!
It’s amazing to see such a details record of the water offerings number everyday, Jill really make this a priority in her daily life.
I really would like to thank Jill for showing a good example. Not only the determination to complete the water offerings, but also to engage the whole family to help out in Kechara House. She sees the value and preciousness of Dharma and live on it. She is a lovely lady always smiling patiently and never talk bad about anything.
Her husband Eric Kwan is a professional camera man, a famous Director Of Photography in the TV Commercial line. He always help in Kechara InMotion works. Sometimes I ask him if he would like to charge for this, as sometimes he really spend his time and professional advice in some jobs; he told me, “This is for Kechara, if I charge you, my wife will scold me.” It’s really funny.
I love the family so much, Wan Hong and Wan San are raised so well just like their parents.
I wish them well and have a fruitful spiritual journey =)
oh gosh this is amazing to read. I’m so so impressed with the very detailed counts that Jill took each day / month – such diligence, discipline and focus. Most impressive is that I don’t think many people even knew that she was doing this retreat, and she never let it get in the way of her other volunteering works at Kechara. She’s always seen around Kechara House, helping out at every event – before, during and after. She even brings along her children to assist, and both Wan San and Wan Hong have also become regular volunteers to Kechara House’s work. Her husband also comes to volunteer and contribute towards Kechara – I’ve often seen them all at KFR volunteering their time too. This is wonderful, that the whole family has made Dharma a part of their lives and their activity together as a family.
Keep it up Jill, and thank you for always being such a strong and stalwart part of Kechara House 🙂
Congratulation Jill! Rejoice in your achievement of 100,000 water offerings! It will surely blessed you and your family.
You are very inspiring and is a very good example for all of us! Other than volunteering in KFR, learning to be Puja guide & supporting Shubten Khang in Pujas, and volunteering in Kechara activities, you still able to do it in such a short time. Your effort, consistency, persistency and faith in Guru is amazing! You also show us a very systematic and good way of how to do water offerings and recording it.
Rejoice Jill! May you advance further and see you more often in Kechara!
My family & I are very proud of our mother’s achievement in this water offering. My mother said that she has gained much personally from the water offering retreat. I have learnt much too through her example of setting a consistent effort and dedication to completing what she has set to achieve.
Day in day out, my mother planned her day around the counts of water offering she has set for the day (usually around 400 to 500 bowls). As much time as she has taken to complete the water offering, she has also taken the time to take care of the family and spend time with people around her. I am proud of my mother’s achievement! I am touched by all the warm comments by everyone, I know my mom does too even more so. She was so elated when she finished her last bowl of offering!
When I asked her which retreat she is looking forward to the next time around, she gave a few moments of serious thoughts and then flashed back a smile. I look forward to her next retreat. I should engage in one myself too. My mom has been an inspiration.
Congratulations Jill Yam on completing 100,000 water offerings to the Buddhas! It is very inspiring how you never say you are to tired, to old or no time to do it!!!
I am very surprised you managed to complete 100,000 bowls of water offerings in just 8 months! Considered that you still come to Kechara Gompa and Kechara Forest Retreat to volunteer.
On my point of view a lady like you at your age would probably would have taken a longer period to complete 100,000 water offerings so kudos to yourself!
May whatever merit you have accumulated in this wonderful Retreat
may you create the causes for you to get Vajrayoghini Teachings and initiations.
Once again congratulations on your great achievement!!!
Love
Jutika

This water offering retreat is beautiful because of the motivation (dedicated to Rinpoche’s long life and the swift manifestation of KFR), the consistency and the never-give-up attitude.
I am amazed that Jill gets to complete her 100K water offering within 8 months, some days the offerings are lower, some days there are more. But no matter how, this is done consistently, and this is beautiful.
I wish Jill smooth and beautiful dharma journey.
Congratulation to Jill ! Wow! Amazing!
Congratulations to Jill for completing her 100,000 water offering retreat. Although Jill is very busy with volunteering in Kechara regularly and taking care her two children, she never made excuse and although she finds it very tiring on certain days, she still muster all her energy to continue her retreat. I’m very happy for her.
May more people come to practice the preliminary practices through Jill’s wonderful example.
I am happy for her too! Jill and her family are all in Dharma together. Completing this watering offering practice benefits her, her family and everyone. I saw her volunteering in Kechara very often and assisting with puja sessions.
